Today was very much a fall-through-the-cracks day. There were supposed to be things that I was to do. But instead, I chose to do nothing. Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow I will be an upstanding citizen in my life, but for today, Sushu was off the radar. I woke up late, chatted with dad, read some Time, and then finished Smoke and Mirrors. I like short stories. Holds my attention better, I get less impatient.

The past week has been a blur of oddities. I didn’t have STEP, so I had the afternoons off, in a sense. Monday night was visiting with J+C. Tuesday was Generally Not Doing Much. Wednesday was going into SF to visit with a visiting Isaac + co, which concluded in a very surreal drive home at 1am. (There was a glorious moment where, finding ourselves in SF with no one familiar with the city, we decided to call Aza in Chicago, who gave us a different phone number to call….) Thursday, the company drove down to visit me in Palo Alto. There was wandering about Stanford in search of a lost brother (not mine), and there was the nice policeman telling me that my brake lights don’t work. (And oh, by the way, you’re not supposed to have so many people in one car, now here’s your two citations thankyouverymuch). There were also caterpillars. And a promise of ducks. And Korean tofu.

Friday I felt sick and miserable, all sniffly and flaccid. But class turned out okay, and then afterward I met up with Kim in her fabulous hotel suite (paid for by Google, who flew her over for an interview). We went home and made wontons, a home-cooked meal, and conversation about Chinese dating and marriage. With my parents. We had planned on going to the mall afterwards (a return to a high school life that I never had), but I was so sickly that instead we went back to Kim’s suite and soaked in the Jacuzzi and watched trashy tv on VH1 (a shade of a different life that I never had).

All in all it’s been a very good week. Not exactly an unwind-and-reboot in the sense of “Spring Break”, but I enjoyed hanging out with many different friends, and am feeling less sick.

Tomorrow begins in 33 minutes.
