The UCJAS BADASS contribution to the Garden Party is done!

The theme this year was apparently "Halloween". The three requests were:
- Akio dressed up as anything (and I mean anything)
- Hagu as a mushroom
- San (from Setto no Hanayome) as a Chivalrous mermaid

The first request blew everyone's mind.
So Friday night Cat stayed over, and then Saturday we spent the morning making onigiri and painting San from a picture that the resourceful Cat found online. Then we started plotting AKIO. OMGz. I started off thinking "Card Captor Akio", and Cat pictured him in a wolf costume. So we went back to the basics: if Akio were wearing a costume, would he be ... froofy? ridiculous? suave? dangerous? Once we settled on sultry, the Maharajah look was a must. Maharajah with... harem. TOO PERFECT for Akio. So we inked it Saturday afternoon, and then I was able to color it in tonight. It took 3 hours, but I'm quite pleased with it. Alas, I left my camera at parents' house, so this is the crappy cell phone camera version...

Of course, lots of things wrong with it... all sorts of proportion issues, foreshortening issues, bulging package issues... Akio's head is way to big, and Anthy's way too small, etc etc. But all in all it's pretty awesome. Almost makes me want to keep it! ;)

Anyway, it's Monday night, which means Garden Party pictures need to be mailed tomorrow... and I don't think I'll have time to do a full-size Hagu tonight, what with lesson planning and all... Maybe I'll just do some cute postcards of people in costume.

From proctoring the SATs last week--

Some sort of girl looking through a market stall. Wanted kinda travel-worn exterior, but really elaborate silk embroidery underneath. And looking at containers, because I like containers. Um... maybe Startdust-inspired? The problem with drawing on paper is that scanning is half the battle, and this didn't scan well. poo.

2 more from plane ride to ACen )

I've realized that I don't actually have a picture of me as Azuma Kazuma. So I'll put up ACen photos after I've taken a picture of myself.

Seems that I've been drawing more with the tablet.

Anyway, here:

(if you click on it, it gets Bigger. teehee)

You know how as a kid you find out all about the mysterious night sky, and you marvel at how the Greeks were able to look at a set of dots and say, "that is a winged horse" or "those are angsty twins"? And then you really want to see the stars better, so you take out those binoculars that were given to you for your 9th birthday, not really realizing that binoculars are quite out of their league, and so are you, standing in some suburban lawn....

Anyways, yes. Hrm. Last night I was like, "I want to draw something that is LJ-appropriate" (re: appropriately wangsty), and this is what I came up with. I've become more cynical. And at the same time, feeling quite out of my league in terms of dealing with adults. I met someone who hasn't seen me since 7th grade. She said that I had always been good at public speaking, but not at social speaking. Which is a funny thing to say. And true.

Fiddling with ArtRage again. The brush thing is not good for fine-tuning. But here have a picture:

Have some more )

Tell me if this kills your friends page layout.

I like ArtRage because it is tablet-pen friendly. (whereas Photoshop really needs keyboard shortcuts like the brush-size-grower, etc) Two things I wish it had: 1) an "ink pen" function, because turning the pencil to full pressure and softness isn't the same. 2) a lasso tool, so that I can shift things like panel 2

A big-ish project was due today. It involved Hitler and FDR getting it on. Well, sort of, since it's just a rough draft. So I took a well-deserved break tonight, having not done anything except spend an hour drawing. And doing my laundry. I also tried to fill out some job applications, but the website is down. Poo. Maybe I'll work on my cover letter and tidy the room. Low-key things, y'know.

Kim visited last weekend, and it was fun. Interesting to see Kim in the California context. There needs to be more communist karaoke songs.
