Loo dee loo. It's 1am here. Which means all the east coast folks have gone to bed, and all the west coast folks are still out partying. Went to concert tonight. They played 5 of Beethoven's Piano-Cello sonatas, and the cellist was awesome. Not only did he memorize all of them, but he had the most amazing expressions while playing. Y'know how artists supposedly have the emotion of whatever they're drawing on their face? It's like that. He was just so into it! It was as if he didn't see us.... emotions of music (at least his interpretation) entirely played out on his face and in his actions. Very very cool. It's like having visual + audio interpretation of the same piece. I like Beethoven, esp his early-later pieces. And this time, I stayed away for the entire concert! The pianist is this cute 25-yr-old, but he was hidden by the piano. ;_; http://chicagopresents.uchicago.edu/chamber.html second section down.

Saturday "morning" brunch is when you get to hear about the lovely time everyone had last night drinking and smoking and throwing up and passing out. the "study hard, party hard" policy definitely stands in this school. One guy evidently conversed in 3 languages when drunk, then puked in the urinal and went to bed. >_<. Entertaining, yes?

I'm gonna do work today, I really am. actually, stole roomie's David Ives books and finally read Philip Glass in print. Still liked Sabrina & Jeanne's version better, (esp the costumes! And the bread!) And yes, now, to work on essay. Stubborn main claim. geh.

A small possibility that I've been seeing too many movies lately is when I call my parents and my mom asks, "so what movie did you see tonight". Well, actually, I went to see 2 one-acts today, both translated by students. the Festivities and Picnic on a Battlefield. Picnic was really funny, and I didn't really get Festivities. Saturday night is also the night that the dining halls close and we are forced to eat out. But yeah, I think I've done all I could to not write my essay, so I might as well go write it now. Well, I do have a semi-outline. It's working out the main claim that's the hard part. Am I being too vague? "Although the Oriental Institute attempts to objectively show the history of only a fragment of Persian culture, its use of display strategies and narrative instead creates a complete image of a distanced and mystified civilization." Augh, you can already tell it's a bunch of BS.
