Another year, another birthday
Dec. 31st, 2007 03:12 amToday was a pretty good birthday. Woke up at 10:30am, and played a few quick rounds of SnapTrap, which is an awesome game that I need to buy. Then Alexis and Ben and I went out to lunch at a dim-sum place. (Yay dimsum! I never have dimsum in the Bay area because all the dimsum places are in SF, and I rarely haul ass up there). And then we went to an awesome exhibit about "Japan Envisioning the West". I got a globe with a map of the world from 1745!! Then we bought groceries, got back, and made lots of dumplings and tempura. Eggplant tempura is tasty! I made wontons, dumplings with hand-made wraps, and spring rolls. Then we watched "Eat Drink Man Woman", which only gets better on the third re-watching. And then we had strawberry mousse cake. Mmmmm.... :D All in all a good birthday. Alexis says that 24 is a good year. Let's hope so!
As always, a review of this year tonight. New Year's resolutions will come with the new year.
Accomplishments:
- Graduated from STEP
- Visited China, made friends and a speech. Talked to lots of cool people
- Got a job, earning independent wages
- Moved into own apartment with nice roommates
- Generally kept in touch with friends, even without chatting programs --> Visited Joanne and Kim, went to ACen and UChi-Con, Isaac and Jono visited, BADASS, Paly Gumi reunion, hanging out with Wanying and George, and I'm visiting Alexis and Ben.
- Made Azuma Kazuma cosplay, which I am pleased with because (a) I did it without a formal pattern, and (b) I paid attention to detail.
Fun moments:
- ACen -- Dancing with Pat and Charlotte, late-night gossip with Cat, seeing Jon and Kimberly, drawing Akio in the bathroom
- playing with giant balloon things with Christie and Karen at the end of STEP
- talking to people on the train ride to Seattle
- drinking on the beach in Qingdao.
- talking to people in China.
- doing the Soulja Boy dance.
Regrets
- not drawing enough
- not reading enough
- not having much of a social life outside of school and BADASS
- not visiting SF often enough to hang out with Carrie and Kelly
- not getting people proper presents
- spending too much of my money on school (books, dvds, supplies)
Hm... the elephant in the room is obviously my reflection on the whole teaching shindig thus far. It's not something best answered at 3:30 in the morning. But another time, another post? It's a question that people keep asking me, and which has such a complicated answer that I keep not answering, so I will need to answer it.
In the mean time, I am 24, 23 was a year of big changes, and I've been told that 24 is a good age.
