Dec. 23rd, 2004 06:03 pmSalisbury is a kinda has-been town, but the Cathedral's nice, the Magna Carta's nice, and seeing Stonehenge with a winter solstice sunset was also nice. A drunk lady hijacked the Trivial pursuit game and created an arbitrary system of passes and forfeits and dares. The game's the British version, from about 1992 or thereabouts.
Dover is a cute seaside town. Misadventures with hostel-finding landed us in a hostel-priced B&B with a cute British couple and Zach the dog. A full English breakfast is impressive! Still not much appreciation for sausages. Dover Castle is gigantic, and has everything from 1142 gates, Thomas Beckett chapel, rooms kept from when Henry VIII hung around, and underground rooms from WWII-- where the Dunkirk evacuation was planned, in fact. Joanne grew uncharacteristically bubbly around canons. But then again, she does have a thing for them.
Oh, also was sick with fever and sore throat starting about yesterday morning. Ibuprofen and lozenges make better. Still some residual fever, but sleeping it off in-between strenuous climbing. One good thing about the fever was that it temporarily halted mensturation for about 12 hours last night, starting around 8pm. Back again, though. Meh. I'm acquainted with a disproportionate number of toilets in England. :D
ADD: Have just spent the past hour and half writing emails and LJ. No hope of ever catching up on everybody. But everyone seems to be getting on with the Christmas celebrations, so yay!
( and a whiny bit )
