Apr. 14th, 2003 12:35 amI don't know if I can maintain this for the next 10 weeks. So much reading, but each so .... insignificant. Repetitive. We don't need 100 pgs just to drive in a single point. But I treasure books to much to skip. I mean, people wrote this to be read fully, right? But what if I read the introduction and know what you're going to talk about? And it makes sense, so you don't really have to prove it to me so carefully? bleh. I mean, the book transitions well, but ... ::sigh:: I guess I'm just used to reading Soc books where it's mostly theoretical, where you read to understand, not read to be convinced. Aargh, I don't think Sociology is for me. The conclusions in the book seem to be so shallow, especially given the complexity of society.
Oh yes, about me, not Race/Ethn class.
Friday night: Saw Adaptation. Did not like it. Well, first half was frustrating, second half was embarrasing. Good actors, though. Such a *very* self-indulgent screenplay. ugh.
Saturday: Went to anime club skit meeting for 1 hour, helped cut designs for a "flame cape". They're trying to do something about WHRobin and Kikkoman fish dance. Umm... yeah. Then went with Joanne to Chinatown, and then to Belmont (the non-cool side of Belmont) to see this deaf Hamlet. Basically, Hamlet, Gertrude, Ophelia, Leartes, Ghost, and Gravedigger were are deaf. Polonius and Horatio know how to sign, and Claudius does not. Then there are people who are the interpreters. Both Hamlets (the deaf and the "shadow") are awesome. The signs do add to the dramatic expression. Worth it. So then we came back, and I was all set to do homework, but then it was Game Night in the house, so I decided that one can't be forever asocial, so I sat around, played scrabble and Yahtzee and listened to people talk. Well, I did get some reading done....
And then today, I just sat around and read. And munched on the goodies I got from Chinatown. yumyum!
My roomie has taken to sleeping at 11:30. She is so *normal*, so *wholesome*. I realize now that I have lived a sheltered geek life in PA. I mean, imagine someone who's never attached a file on email. Whose conception of "computer-oriented" is just playing games. (Or am I just sheltered in the family? I always think "computer-oriented" as being php, asp, visual c++, networking servers....EECS things, y'know...) Playing games is just u83|2-933|<-ish....
Okay, back to some reading. (hopefully)
