Oct. 11th, 2002 11:27 pmThis is sad, the Iraq thing. I feel like I have no idea what the government is doing, what they're planning to do, what's happening in Iraq right now, or heck, what's happening in the rest of the world. (like what happened during Vietnam).
Anyway, went to Guarneri String Quartet concert. I didn't know who they were until I got there. Apparently some very famous and spiffy people, who have been together for almost 40 years. So very skilled and very in tune with each other. I don't know *how* good they were, but they were very very good. They played Haydn's String Quartet in C Major, Op.54, No.2. (elegant, intricate playing), Ullmann's String Quartet No.3, Op.43 (emotional, exciting. Had Esca mecha battle in mind-cast image.), and Beethoven's Strng Quartet in A Minor, Op. 132 (simple yet profound, very subtle. Would have appreciated more if had not dozed off in middle. Same with Haydn. Not my intention! And not music's fault, either. It's probably because I was a little tired and for some reason couldn't absorb the music.) But overall very very awesome. I need to get a calendar for the rest of the concerts.
So that's my entertainment for tonight. Even though I probably won't get so far on drafting my essay, I'm glad to have gone out this weekend. (even the 5 min walk to Mandel Hall). Oh, I had something else to say, but seem to have forgotten. Drat! Oh, I remember now. Yesterday, I read Bridget Jones' Diary (helpfully thrust into my hands by roomie), and now I understand the syntax of the Very Secret Diaries much better, as it is (now I realize) based off of Bridget Jones'. (The v.good, the cold, aloof, elf-princess, the disappearing pronouns, etc.) Anyway, am now speaking (well, typing) in syntax. Stupid syntax. Will get better soon. Seem to have forgotten how I usually write LJ entries. bah.
