just had fire alarm. (7:00 am, which is way better than Jess' 3:45 am). I had to be shaken awake by roomie (alas, all those years of ignoring the alarm and pressing snooze...) So walked down stairs stood outside and watched 2 fire engines pull up from the fire station 2 seconds away. (they're diagonally across the intersection). There was one that had ladders and one that didn't. I'm assuming that the one that didn't was mostly for pumping water, while the one with the ladders is more for rescuing people. They had pretty flashing lights. So after a while they come back out and we go back upstairs, close the door, climb back into bed... only to have the fire alarm sound again. Thankfully, it stopped just as I was opening the door to the stairwells.

Oh, and lifedrawing yesterday was boring. model kept moving because is not professionally trained, and after a few 1-min poses, moved onto 30-min poses... And the people next to me were complaining about the 2 hour session. (it's so loooong....) But there's some really good artists in there, and they have "public supplies" that we can use, so next time I'll experiment with something...

Just saw the Bourne Identity. As far as big-budget, blockbuster thrillers go, this is pretty good. Can find little fault with it. Isn't absolutely stunningly wonderful, but was money well spent. (Especially since I got the quarter pass for $24, and if I watch 6 movies, that makes up for the price. This quarter's movie list includes Minority Report, Spider Man, Insomnia, Y Tu Mama Tambien, and "Rockumentary Tuesdays". I think I can squeeze out enough time for this. Anyway, Matt Damon was being Matt Damon (the whole "pretty boy" thing isn't confined to anime! ha!), the plot was relatively predictable (and age-old. The whole amnesiac spy with everyone chasing after him thing), but acting was decent, and there was the father guy from October Sky, and lots of action, and very nice details. Details details, like the languages that they use actually sound authentic (dunno if they are), and there's the bar scene and many others where Jason Bourne shows off how ingrained his training is. (he takes one look around the room and picks up all these details, he automatically remembers the car license plate #s of his surroundings, his ability to turn anything into a weapon, and wiping off fingerprints of the motel room after a night with the girl...) And there were lots of nice awkward moments, breaks in conversation, the girl going into shock, not everyone's smooth-talking, and Matt Damon does a few good impressions of looking confused, frustrated, desperate... (and very little special effects. Reminds me of the good old days of Bond, Li Xiao Long, etc. Jackie Chan actually did a movie called "Who Am I"...) A very traditional plot in a traditional genre, but they've done a good job with it.

And this is so cliched it's funny -- the black trenchcoats. Once they were officially "on the run", they get these grey sweaters and black felt-ish trenchcoats (well, it was snowing, but...). And they stalk around all serious and paranoid-like. Apparently mysterious men/women of action *have* to wear black. (Matrix is obvious example) If I were airport security, I'd just pick out all the guys with black trenchcoats... they'll either have 30 grand or 30 semi-automatics. And if a friend shows up at my door with the black trench (tm), I'll say, "sorry, can't let you in before you tell me what you're running from and/or any deep dark secrets you have." Except, unless, it's Syra, because that wouldn't be too abnormal...~_^ Now anyone else in a black trench...
