class is over for the day. ::can't comprehend:: Math class was easy. We're basically doing sequences and series and some integration. bah. Spanish class is okay. I mean, grammatically, we'll be going over preterite and subjunctive for the 3rd year in a row, but there's gonna be a lot more writing and talking, which is that I need practice on. $70 for a book for 2 quarters. Well, I got one. But I'm not getting a math book... thinking of bumming off of Stephanie or roomie. I'm almost contemplating Honors Calculus, except for the fact that there's 3 quarters and I don't want to take math, ever, again. But still, this class is just a waste of my time right now. Then again, it's only the first day, and one can't really tell... anyway, gtg get laundry... and then there's the Chinese placement test tonight.... and anime club tomorrow!

oh, and just another thing about the stupidity of my math class (don't get me wrong, half the class was bored to death) is that someone actually asked about the square brackets for a closed interval. "Is there a difference between the square brackets and the normal ones?" Um... yeah.

Just got back from Chinese placement test. It was at 6:15, and I remembered that at 5:55, so it was rush downstairs, shove food into mouth, and fast-walk 10-min to Cobb. It was an okay test. Wasn't really geared towards non-native speakers, though. (Of course, Chinese itself has little formal grammar structure to speak of.) I think I did all right. There were a few "translate into Chinese" characters that I forgot how to write. (It's always the sorta-easy ones, like: 适 and 严, which I just remembered how to write, silly me, and 责, 普). There were fill in the blanks, "the underlined part can best be restated as", write the pinyin for the words, translate this sentence into Chinese, and a lot of reading comprehension, ranging from SAT-level to this really interesting 文言文-ish paragraph talking about 粱启超 doing cool things and 袁世凯 not being able to bribe him nor intimidate him. Very cool.

Oh, and tomorrow, there's an oral interviewish thing with the-prof-that-hates-my-mom. Hopefully I won't get carried away and talk about Chinese School. or living in Stanford, or my mom. dammit, there's nothing left to talk about in Chinese. I have no life. I'll talk about my visit to China (a little risky, tho), and the test and um... jinyong! except that she probably doesn't know much about jinyong. boo.

$130 on 8 Hum+Soc books: acceptable. $70 on 1 Spanish book, stupid. Although if I actually think about it, the Hum and Soc books last only 1 quarter, while the Spanish book lasts for 2. But I'd rather have the cool Hum books than Spanish book that I'd never use again after the 2 quarters. Bah.
