All in one go.
Jun. 27th, 2001 12:29 amWell, looks like I haven't written for almost a week now. Very well, then, let's get it all over with in one go, and clutter all of you peoples' friends pages. (I'm so mean) ~_^ To make things slightly better, I'll organize by interest to the "public".
Oh, and a big congrats to Kaede for the call-back for Dejiko, and soothing music to calm the Nerves of Cosplay. Katherine: the flying car tale will be passed down for generations as "Something to do with your money besides burning it".
Models: Thursday night's model was really cute and angelic. A guy. I really admired his tenacity... sitting in the same position for 2 hours is not an easy task (even with breaks) There was this person there doing this wonderful watercolor that stirred quite a lot of admiration. Tonight we had two female models, very annoying people who kept on talking, and spent their poses sitting down or lying down. I'm beginning to feel like I'm stuck in a rut. I think what I need to do is stop drawing the models and start looking at the body structure, how pieces are put together. (btw, thursday's and tuesday's are uploaded.)
Webpage Spent part yesterday and part today on designing a webpage for our Chinese School. Still not totally satisfied with the format. Here's yesterday's design that I stole off of a college website and proved more trouble than it's worth, and here's todays' that I made off the top of my head. (None of the links work) Give me your comments!
QingMing A Chinese holiday involving (what else?) food and historical folklore, celebrated on the fifth of may by the lunar calender. (yesterday) The holiday is about a month later than usual by the solar calender because of the double April on the lunar calender. (crazy stuff... it is a leap year, so we add a month). Spent all afternoon making ZongZi, and then all evening entertaining guests. Yay.
JueDaiShuangJiao I finally finished the 127-chapter "book"... well, the illegal online version, anyway. Wow, that took a long time... The story is basically about twins separated at birth by vengeful sisters who killed the twins' parents because they were rejected by the husband. One grows up in the "Valley of Evil", with basically the most evil people around. They teach him how to lie and cheat, etc (but he still has a good heart). The other grows up in a cold emotionless palace. By the time they grow up, they don't recognize each other. The palace twin had been ordered to kill the other twin on sight, and the evil sisters' plan is tell the living twin the truth and make him suffer. ::deep breath:: Of course, it doesn't work. I guess what was most disappointing was that the basis for the story was just too crazy. GuLong can create some interesting characters, but everything is just too mysterious, and nothing turns out as you expected. There were some really well-written parts, but much of the story is just way too high-strung and jumpy. Also, the ending was disappointing. How about letting some people die? Instead everyone just gets paired up. ::sigh:: I guess I only like the main character because he is obnoxious in a funny sort of way, and at the same time "the smartest man in the world". Everyone else is just angsty and says the lines they're supposed to say. Even the evil people aren't that interesting, they just have a few odd habits and a bad name. Now that I've read it, though, I can compare it to JinYong's Xia Ke Xing, which is also about identical twins separated at birth. (again by a vengeful woman) I guess what I like about it is that the plot isn't so twisted, and people aren't so 2-dimensional. Unlike JDSJ, one of the twins *is* quite wicked and petty. The other is extremely gullible. But at least all the loose ends are tied, and there is a theme, a moral, or something.... ::shrug:: They're both very good, but given the choice of reading 20 chapters and getting the same amount of "perks" as 127 chapters, I think I'll go with the 20 chapter one. (Although JinYong's chapters are way longer....)
