Well, everyone's gone as of this morning. Yesterday, I sent off Alexis and then daddy gave a tour of Stanford and then we went ot San Jose and sat around and watched fireworks set to patriotic music. Who knew that people are supposed to sing the national anthem on Independence Day? Dude.
And omg this morning, I was utterly brilliant: I brought some frozen buns with me for lunch. :o!!! So instead of getting up at 8 and not eating until I get off work at 2:30, I ate around noon and worked until 3:40! Yay food!
Oh, and Alcatraz/Angel Island was fun. We walked around Angel Island, which took like 3 hours. We stopped at the Chinese immigration center, which had really cool painted-over wall-carved calligraphy. Yay for bored oppressed Chinese people and their penchant for venting through poetry. Then we chilled at a small quiet beach. Our sandals were almost lost when the tide came in. More walking around. And then it's back to the mainland (getting lots of ocean spray by pulling a "Jack, I'm flying!") for fresh seafood on Fisherman's Wharf, consumed while listening to a singing preacher. :D And then the buses stopped running and we took the last train home.

And as for the Chinese Turkestan thing, after talking with my dad, I'm much more peaceable about it. The going of the summer will depend on Joanne's dad. If he doesn't want Joanne to go anyway, it's really inappropriate for me to press the case. Then I'll just apply for a research grant and go during Winter break. Or something. :D. Thanks for all those who were like "omg Sushu's doing her angst spasm AGAIN"
