Jun. 24th, 2004 12:25 amHaving stayed up too late (3:30) and gotten up too early (8), missed my nap (brother wanted me to play Civ3), and overstuffed myself with heavy foods (glutinous rice zongzi), I'm really *not* in the mood for waiting until 1am *again* to call the France people about our room reservation, mostly because the people in Chicago are *nonexistant* (they say their hours are 9:30-5:30... uh, yeah, right). I was hoping that the France people may be at work by 9, but that's quite foolish of me. I'm gonna try in a few more minutes, and then at 1. Meanwhile, my body is complaining quite loudly about the lack of care I've given it all last quarter ... the missed meals, the undersleeping, the oversleeping, the stress, the constant snacking... Plus the drastic diet change upon arriving home (as opposed to having one large meal and several small snacks, I'm having two large meals, a small breakfast when I can't weasel out of it, and many more snacks, plus fruit, which is good). So yeah, I guess it's time my evil evil habits caught up with me. Feeling constricted in the chest, and given to numb mind and uncontrollable shaking of the hand. I guess the proper thing to do is eat more vegetables and get some sleep. But I don't really want to sleep till noon or something....
So yeah, played Civ3 for the first time today. Hm... I guess it's all right. Definitely a more "guyish" game. Or I guess I'm easily bored with most games, because I'm not willing to make the mental effort to play thos brain twister games, not coordinated enough for normal fighting games, heck, not even for Tekken-like games (I always end up facing the wrong direction and I'm never conscious enough to block). Not competitive enough to really care about racing games (also not dexterous enough). RPG games tend to be frustrating unless there's a walkthrough... Hm.... "how far can we slide/fly/hit the penguin/ball/people" gets boring after about 3 tries. I guess my mind at stasis likes those gem-slides where you try to connect 3, and tetris-like things. Maybe this is what happens when your childhood games were minesweeper and solitaire. But anyway, Civ3 ... is scarily mind-numbing. I mean, it doesn't require the anal-retentive planning of SimCity (ugh, I shudder at those little electricity lines and water pipes), so it's really about being about to keep your mind on lots of little nodes of standardized input/output and directing them towards a Greater Goal (World conquest), which is kinda cute. And I'm always amused by the strange scenarios that are set up (took over Russia today. They weren't even proper serfs. Now have regional hegemony.) Certain aspects made me ponder... like their little "path of knowledge"-- the things that are considered necessary to attain a republic or a monarchy or whatnot, and what each implies. Or the constant desire of the cities to build Giant Monuments whenever left to themselves... Growth and development are simplified to shields and grain (So logically, people give birth to full-fleged citizens when there is enough food accumulation? Whereas we know that limited resources have rarely acted as an effective form of contraceptive in this world...) Hmm... I feel like I've lost a parenthesis somewhere... Oh well. The diplomacy aspect is also kinda interesting... I wonder if I can make secret treaties with anyone, but that's another game, isn't it? It's a horrible time eater because they take a while to finish... Speaking of which, I wanna play diplomacy, but don't think I'll be very good at it --- keeping a straight face and doing backstabbing...
Oooo... it's almost 1!! almost there! Well, the end is here, I shall go check comics. (which leads to two points:
1) Very sad that the LJ syn feeds of the comics.com comics have stopped. ::misses Get Fuzzy::
2) OMG, I love the fact that on the West coast, I don't have to wait until 2 to see half the updating comics!! :DD
Hmm... Alexis dreamed about me last night, which makes me a happy kanojo. ^____^v
