I figure I should do a proper update sometiime, about what's happening in my life, etc, instead of random moody entries. I guess so far everything has been fine. It's only first week, but there's been so much going on that it feels like much longer. I think that's what happens with class shopping and all that. I'm also trying to find a job or something like that, but that can wait, I suppose. The apartment is looking better, and I'm getting along with my roommates. Occassionally I'm finding time to cook, but I'm also realizing that cooking for one person is a lot less involved than cooking for a bunch of people. I'm hoping that eventually my roommates and I will work out a way such that we can all cook for each other, which is just making the same food but in greater quantities. God, I envy grad students so much, they have so much free time on their hands.

I have 3 of my classes definitely set (Islamic Civ, US and World Disorder: 1914-1945, which is probably the funnest class... we got to listen to WWI song about the Lusitania. how great is that! And Japan and the West: 19th Century encounter. We get to read Madame Chrysanthemum, but as usual, the Kenshin period is covered in 2 minutes.) There's also that Ancient Near Eastern civ that I might audit b/c it's taught by a cute!guy with shampoo-ed Aragorn hair and eyepatch, but we'll see. Unlike Joanne, though, I'm determined not to whore myself out to any more classes (she's trying to take 6 or 7, crazy girl)

Of my club duties, I've done some SMAC stuff, but that doesn't really start until next week. I also want to participate in Chicago Society, but that may not happen given SMAC. Then I also want a small part in MUNUC, but we'll see. I've been doing a bunch of anime club stuff, taking my secretary/webmaster duties quite seriously, mostly because there's a lot of potential in those duties. However, that requires me to be present at every anime screening. I also kinda want to do some after school tutoring thing, where they actually teach you how to tutor. I figure I need to do that if I'm ever going to have good references that will get me a real job in that area. That leaves Friday night mostly free, except this Friday there's a Calligraphy board meeting/dumpling-making session. Saturday, I intend to go to contra-dance, which will be my mobile activity of the quarter (besides the time spent walking around, like the 3 hours of trekking aorund campus yesterday), and Sunday, there's Calligraphy club. Homework will be done mostly on the weekends and the evenings. I also have a bunch of time between my early morning class and my late afternoon class on TTh, which I will hopefully spend wisely. If I'm dropping clubs, it will probably be tutoring (b/c the timing is a little awkward), then Chicago Society (b/c SMAC meetings are at 5, they're at 5:30), and then MUNUC. Can't back out of the three I'm board member, of, though.

The heat has started working in the room, so I'm happy. Maybe it's time to get a new bed, or to rearrange the whole room. (I actually made a little scaled diagram thingy in which I can move things about). I've been getting enough sleep, and hopefully the homework thing will resolve itself. In other words, I'm back to my oblivious self.

And now, off to the reading of Islam stuff. I really like the topic of the civ! It's a really fascinating religion. (And yes, dorkily thinking about Quatre again) I should take a creative writing course some time, just so that I don't write badly.
