I realized that I haven't posted much about my private life these past few days. Well, I'm doing fine, all considering. I'm mostly done with the essay due tomorrow, and will start up on humungo soc paper soon. bah.

last night, I went to dinner at my Chinese prof's house, from 6:30-11:30. Very fun! We had an Italian-style dinner, Steven finished off a bottle of white wine, and several other grad students were soaking up wine without a blush or giggle. Then we had "sweet wine", so among the 8 of us, we finished off a port and a godiva. I had some, too, b/c, according to the prof, it's so low nothing can possibly happen to me. So had a tiny tiny bit of Midori, and tiny bit of godiva. He was like magician with all the different glasses! (reminded me of that guy in Xiao Ao Jiang Hu...)

and on Friday, I went to movies w/ Joanne, to celebrate the end of classes. So we watched the Bond movie (her choice), and Frida (my choice). Frida was pretty cool, y'know, "artsy" movie. There's scenes where her paintings would come alive or they would morph into paintings. Lots of sex, though, b/c apparently, Diego Rivera was major playboy, and Frida was bi. V. luscious and pretty. Bond movie was .. well.. Bond. everything bad about it (shady plot devices, lack of plot for the last half of the movie, too much Bond-save-the-girl...) can be excused by "well, it's a Bond movie". There's also little nods to the 20th-movie factor. "Your 20th watch!" "do these old things still work?" And the intro song sequence was beautiful.

And now you see why I didn't want to write about it: I feel guilty about wasting all that time. Esp. the movies. It was fun, and we had planned like a week before, when I didn't know I would have hw that weekend. ^^;; Actually, don't feel that bad about the drinking. Maybe b/c I've confessed to my parents, and also b/c it wasn't that much. probably not even a tablespoon.

But anyway, everything still worked out. I'll have soc rough draft/rant done by tonight, and will do editing (organizing, quoting, rewriting), etc, tomorrow & Tues.

Hmm.... I can't think of any existing Chinese holidays during December before westerners and x-mas came along. Does this mean that Chinese are more ... um... cautious people who wait until the winter's almost over to celebrate? (while other people celebrate once everything's in the stores)...
