May. 7th, 2002 08:02 pmUrrrrg. The one time I don't want it, it cometh. Bah. Sorry to all the people I annoyed today for being more unbearable than usual. Yes, now let's all blame our sexually unbalanced society. Woo. (Too much Women Writers? nah).
I have realized that I cannot live without gutteral speech. For example, in the previous paragraph alone I used 4. Amazing, isn't it?
Hrm. I'm planning to take the Spanish AP and then my Math final tomorrow so that I only have Computer Sci AP on Thursday. ::nod:: yes, good idea.
It's kind of weird and sad in a way the fact that everyone is more worried about the Math final than the Math AP. Same with Chem and CompSci. ::sigh:: Paly.
Urrrrrg. Menses makes me want to eat chocolate. But I just ate the last chocolate in the house -- 2 oreos that Mom brought home in her American Airlines Bistro bag. Well, there's that box of Godiva chocolate, and those chocolate oranges, but those are presents, so can't eat them.
It's always funny around holiday season when we get presents that seem oddly familiar..... Of course there's the box of See's Candies that everyone gets, and the box of Ferrero Rochers. But sometimes I can't help but wonder....
I used to have a decent habit of perpetually chewing gum instead of constantly snacking. But I was politely asked to kick the habit.
Okay, I should read some more Proud Man, by Katharine Burdekin. (Which is turning out to be a pretty good book, much better than Herland. Here's some favorite quotes so far:
"The only thing in this religion which was connected with woman was a theoretical worship of virginity, which is a complete negation of all a female's biological worth" (29).
"They all believe themselves to be human beings; and that they have two main ideas about their nature. One, that it is fundamentally noble, and the other that it can never change. The first idea comforts them, while the second excuses them for their most grotesque actions, thus allyin, if very slightly, their feeling of guilt" (27).
"An attempt to get power seems to be a natural consequence of a feeling whether conscious or unconscious, of inferiority" (28).
"The were growing to dislike the physical consequences of highly civilized war; but while the idea is connnected in their minds with glory and rightness they cannot exist without war" (21).
"If they must go, for one reason or another, and must fight, and must either be brave or lose their lives disgracefully, where then is their glory?" (22).
"A privilege of class divides a subhuman society horizontally, while a privilege of sex divides it vertically. Subhumans cannot apparently exist without their societies being divided, preferably in those these ways, though the intense antagonism ... prevents any subhuman society from having the stability necessary to its permanent existence" (18).
Poetry workshop this week. Fun, especially when someone does good reading of poem. Sometimes poems are read too blandly, w/ no emotion. Or maybe I'm just extra-sensitive from hanging around Colored Girls too much.
28 degrees. Too hot, too hot.
