Hey, my roomie likes Harry Potter but hates fanfics. That needs to be corrected. Are there any good (non-yaoi) fanfics out there for me to lure her with?

Actually, there're a couple I've read that I liked. It's gotten to the point where I'm like, "Yeah, this and this happened in canon" and it's like, no, wait, that was a fanfic.

I read Cassandra Claire (of Secret Diaries fame)'s Draco series. Draco runs around in leather pants, it's nice. But it's kind of.. I don't know. Identity-swapping potions and Hermione falls for Draco-as-Harry and thus falls for Draco and Harry, Harry and Ginny, Draco and Ginny, etc. etc. etc. And Sirius Black marries Narcissa Malfoy (since Lucius gets sent to St. Mungo's for being an insane evil bastard).

I also read this other one.. I don't remember the name of the author (I read it at Snoogle? Schnoogle? One of those), but it began with "Harry Potter and the Psychic Serpent" and it's continued on. Harry, being a parselmouth, finds this little snake that seems to have the Sight (he names her Cassandra, or Sandy) and.. stuff happens. I don't remember. In the second installment, Harry is given a chance by Voldemort to go back into time to see what would happen if his mother hadn't died. (In this 'fic, she'd been killed because she refused to promise that Harry would become a Death Eater.)

And they're all straight, la la la.

I like Cassandra Claire's Draco fic, too, the first of the two that take place in her Draco-verse (the second one somehow didn't interest me much.) I think it's Draco Dormiens, but I'm not sure if that's the first or the second. ^^;;

After reading it, I started confusing in mind whether fic spells were real HP magic or not (like the epicyclal (sp?) charm and the spell that Hermione uses to blast away Lucius and co.) ^^;;; I guess that's a sign that it's good. It definitely has a Draco bias and OOC... not sure if your roommate will like it if she's a diehard Harry or H&H fan...
