Welp, this is it, isn't it? The last day of School. Well, the last day of High School. So lots of yearbook signings, worried glances at grades (I eeked by... horrible in first three classes, all the rest are fine...) So as I'm reading my yearbook, a few things come up:
1) Sincerity.
There was precious little of that in the yearbook signatures, this year and all other years. Of course, everyone laughs about the lameness of HAGS, but Have A Great Life isn't much better. Wit and randomness are also much appreciated, but sometimes there just feels to be a lack of effort and thought in yearbook signings. Is it because you're not supposed to be deep and weird? I know when I sign, I usually write really corny and cheesy stuff, but at least I mean it. And I do try to be entertaining for those whom I don't know so well. Shouldn't you leave the signee something to remember you by? "Oh, she's the super corny and weirdly spastic one," or something of that sort. Well, at least the gumi and peeps know me pretty well, and I know they mean what they say and there isn't too much to say when we'll be seeing each other over the summer. Words are such a fickle medium. People I know in real life show a very different personality on paper. (myself included)
2) Religion
As I look through the Senior Profiles or whatever they're called, I sift through all the "thank yous", all the attempts to be creative (like me, except that the background didn't show up), I see the occasional ones who quote from the Bible. And I sit with not small wonder at this... faith. So I want to ask all you religious people out there.... How do you do it? What does it mean to you? This faith in god, the willingness to believe and to follow his teachings, no, mandates, because he is a god and not a mere teacher. Religion is a strange and awesome thing, and I can only sit in envy of those with the ability to believe and the strength to follow through.
Okay, now that school is officially over.... Yay! It'll probably take me all weekend to catch up on the LJ happenings of the past 2-3 weeks, but after that, I'll be back and posting and commenting! So yeah, don't be weirded out by comments from me on decade-old stuff.
