hey hey hey! Long time no update! (well, 6 weeks? 7?)
Anyway, semester is over, for both school and Chinese School. In-laws are showing up on Sunday, so next week will be pretty high social energy.
Spouse and child are both sick -- I'm guessing it's COVID, but it's not testing as COVID. (But the fatigue, brain fog, chills, low fever, sniffles, and coughs are all textbook COVID symptoms.) Anyways, it's been a rough couple of days for them. Poor Miss Rutabaga, especially, has been sick since Saturday, and is Dreadfully Bored And Miserable.
At least we put the tree up yesterday?
Oh, I've been dealing with a weird health issue, so I figure I should mention it. Basically, sometimes, for no discernable reason, I would have Really Excruciating Stomach and Back Pain for about half an hour, which usually takes another 2 hours to really fade. It tends to happen at night, usually around 11pm or 1am, so it really kills my sleep. (In addition to, you know, being in excruciating pain. Not just "ow" but more like "maybe I should give my passwords to my spouse in case I suddenly keel over" sort of pain.) Anyway, it's happened about 4 times in the past month, and before that there's been 3 or 4 times since the summer. But the weird thing is .... my health is actually okay otherwise? Like, the doctor ran a bunch of tests, and I'm normal and fine on all of them -- cholesterol: fine. stool sample: fine. bloodwork: fine. diabetes: none. pancreas: normal. gallstones: none. ekg: normal. I've also been tracking the food that I ate on the days when it happens, and it's completely normal food that I eat every other day. So like... what is it?
My current crackpot theory is that it may be my body's response to COVID -- right now I'm the only person who's mostly fine while Spouse and Child are having a Miserable Time. And the last time I had this was when a visiting family member had COVID symptoms.
Anyway, I'm getting an upper endoscopy tomorrow, which is apparently when they stick a camera down your throat and look around your stomach. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Other than that, I've been finishing a bunch of stuff in the past week or so, which has been pretty happy-making -- I was able to pull up my old fic wips and found a new angle for one of them, so I wrote 2k words and finished it! There's another fic that I'm pretty close to finishing as well, I think -- it's 80% of the way there. I also went back and fixed up some arts from 2017, because the fic writer is getting the fic fan-bound. :) I also doodled a slightly better cover for Tape v Hurley, so once I get that properly updated, I won't feel too embarrassed about it, so I'll probably post that. So yeah, lots of good things. :)
Tomorrow's just going to be weird, with the Endoscopy followed by the Taiko Dojo meeting (yes the drama continues... but I'm about done. I think once we finalize a statement, the rest will come easier.)
Stuff to do over winter break:
- grade 9th essays
- write Chinese School checks and mail them out
- finish tape v hurley new cover so that I can post the dang thing
- draft Sunflower comic
- work on Quest

alas, don't think it's kidney stones -- the CT didn't show anything, plus it's the wrong part of the belly. I'm hoping I'll find out more info with the endoscopy tomorrow!
