pretty productive thus far
My summer has been pretty productive thus far! I spent this week mainlining Murdoch Mysteries and drawing my Tape v Hurley comic, so now it's 97% inked (still need 3 backgrounds, but I'm kind of burnt out on it). What's left is basically coloring, which will be pretty easy. Oh, and cover design and writing the historical notes. But I've inked 10 pages this week!!! And watched 2 seasons of Murdoch Mysteries, to the point where I'm like... "I need something different." So I just found some random trashy wuxia tv show on Netflix (they have Chinese subtitles now, bless). If I can get the last few backgrounds inked, I think I'll be able to work on the rest on nights and weekends, which means that most of the heavy creative work is done. Whew! I should probably try to draft out a Sunflower comic for the upcoming comickers anthology before summer ends, but those comics are always pretty low-key for me. I usually don't aim for "good", I just aim for "fulfills the prompt and not terribly tedious to draw." XD;;;
I think the productivity this year, compared to the lack of productivity last year, is that I made it that I wasn't beholden to anyone else but me for most of the scheduling. I think it also helped that I had weekly goals that alternated between logistics-heavy stuff and creative-heavy stuff, and that Miss Rutabaga wasn't home until 4:30pm or so most days of the week.
Week 1: completely rearranged the child's room, gave away a lot of stuff, got new ladder and was able to replace tube lights
Week 2: some more sorting and organizing, drew July 4th comic, dealt with beginning of Taiko Drama, hosted July 2nd get-together
Week 3: finished July 4th comic, day trip to Fresno (Taiko), designed a foam display board, spent all weekend doing Pop-up gallery
Week 4: did more taiko stuff, went camping, did more taiko/camping stuff (I always try to prep for next year's camping right after this year)
Week 5: inked 10 pages of Tape v Hurley
Week 6: I plan to do all my school-related prep work
Week 7+8: Northeast Trip
So, generally not bad! Spouse had some Emotions, as well as some Emotional Breakthroughs, which is good, too!
Oh, this week and next we're... catsitting? Is that what it's called when an acquaintance is out of town and has left their cat with us? Anyway, Orange Cat (yes that's her name) is very sweet and decorous, likes to sit on my lap when I'm drawing, and is generally an absolute gentleman (non-gendered term indicating propriety). Only thing is that she doesn't cover her poop (probably because she's new to this litter?) But right now we're home a lot so it's not a super big issue.
I've also managed to eat healthy this summer, huzzah.
What else? Dad's still in China, and I think this time he might not be coming back. But I guess he has 2-ish more months to decide? Mom's ... still trying to process the very strong possibility of him not coming back, so ... it's been a bit rough for her. I'll see if I can hang out with her a bit on Sunday. And I should think about having her move closer to me...
