College, Science Olympiad, Online Tests
In response to the "feeling at campus" queries, neither of them is "perfect". Chicago feels too conservative, and Berkeley feels to liberal. However, I'm inclining towards Chicago, because I just want to get out there, away from home. Then I'll come back for my graduate school. If I hang around here for the rest of my life, I think I'd suffocate. Well, maybe not, but still, I'd rather go out. Finances may be a slight problem, but working a few hours a day might actually keep my day structured ::gasp::. It might be pretty challenging, but Berkeley feels too random for me. I'm such a random person, when I shouldn't be. Hey, I have new people to scare at college with my flailing antics. Sorry for being all ranty about this. I really should shut up. Shut up, Sushu. Okay.
And onto brighter subjects! I realized I never did a full report on Science Olympiad, and since my entire life is on the journal, I can't leave out SciOly!
Okay, so we leave on Friday and get back late Saturday night. The competition was from 8-5 on Saturday (including registration and awards ceremony). Out of the 18 schools competing, we got 6th overall, with Chem Lab getting bronze, Physics Lab getting silver, Qualitative Analysis getting silver, Scrambler getting 4th, and Experimental Design getting 5th. Very cool.
Memorable moments: Me trying to balance Boomilever on my chin. David making Gas Law joke. Nancy trying to push Jon and Thomas off our bed. Me listening to birdsongs at 3am, while Joanne reads Korean bible. "Do you have something with a LOT of caffeine in it?" Burning plastic with lighter, and getting caught by motel management. Jack in the Box. Watching Cowboy Bebop at 4am. Gummy worms. Ice in bed. Writing random answers on the tests. "The pretty one. The fastest one. Flourite" Night serenade with guitar by Thomas. 6 people sleeping in room. Yibo winning w/ Scrambler. Us halting entire Awards Ceremony with calculator problems.
My events: Rocks and Minerals was really hard because they gave us ugly, microscopic samples, or three green samples and asked us to identify and name mineral group. Fill in the Blank. Not enough time. Feathered Frenzy was just over our heads. 15 slides and 15 birdsongs. Slides went okay, birdsongs.... "that sounds like a jay" "that sounds like a jay, too" "that sounds like ... a jay" -.-;;; "wait, that one goes brik-caaaaaw, but we heard brik-brik-caaaaaw..." "um, which birdcall are we supposed to be hearing?" o.o;;; Was about to put Mrs. Leyva for famous Yosemite explorer. "Oh crap, maybe it's not a peregrin falcon, it might be a brown pelican" (slide of embryo)
