okay, I'm thinking a little more about the nitty gritty of a time breakdown
So ideally every day I can have an hour of downtime, an hour of creative time, 1-2 hours of time with spouse, and 1-2 hours of time with family (as in, with spouse + kid). If I get home at 6:15pm and go to bed at midnight, theoretically that's almost 6 hours. (I should be getting more sleep, though, so let's call that 5.) This also assumes that I don't need productive time because I've done all my work at work (#workgoals)
- Creative time needs to happen solo, so it would either be while spouse is doing bedtime, while spouse is asleep, or while spouse is picking up kid.
- Downtime also needs to be solo, because introvert, so it occupies the same time.
- Ideally family time is dinner + activity. Lately that's mostly been video games, but maybe we can have more board games or other joint projects.
- Spouse time would be after kid bedtime.
Currently it's roughly:
6:15-7:30: I have downtime / spouse plays with kid and makes dinner, etc
7:30-8:40: dinner/family time
8:40-10pm: kid bedtime haranguing
10pm-midnight: some mix of spouse/downtime, etc.
What if:
5:15-6:15: I drive kid home / Spouse gets downtime or creative time
6:15-7:30: I have creative time / spouse plays with kid and makes dinner, etc
7:30-8:30: dinner/family time
8:30-10pm: I do kid's bedtime (secretly downtime bc I scroll on the phone) / spouse gets downtime or creative time [maybe make 8:30-9pm a clean-up/dishes/bath time?]
10pm-midnight: spouse time
This might work better than spouse doing pickup, since if he does pickup, he loses on downtime later.
I think that once a week, there's also need for other types of time -- time with friends, time for errands (cleaning, shopping, etc), and, lbr, time to do work stuff that overflows.
Currently time with friends is happening:
- Spouse gets Monday open mic night or Tuesday gamestore night
- We do comickers on Thursday night
- Saturday morning Taiko
It would makes sense that for the weeknights when we do friend things, our 10pm-midnight time becomes individual downtime/creative time. Or maybe errands time, like doing clean-up together or folding laundry, etc.
If we do taiko on Saturday morning, then really the best time for me to do Chinese School stuff would actually be Sunday morning. Then the Sunday afternoon time is for overflow work or other productive/creative endeavors.
