Thanksgiving

We got a whole week off for Thanksgiving, and at first I was like "wow, so much time, I'm going to get so much done!" But turns out having in-laws visit for the majority of the week took a lot of time and energy.

But hey! Activities happened, I made lots of Thanksgiving food, and I just wrapped up a successful Comickers Friendsgiving. We had 10 whole people at our house! And everyone had a place to sit and a plate! And everyone brought yummy food and were super chill. (We're a really low-key group, so when I was like "put food on this table, grab a plate and serve yourself", everyone was like "k, cool." And at the end we were like "here's some tupperware, bring food home", so we even have a moderate amount of leftovers!) OMG it's so awesome to have friends! (I guess I'd kind of forgotten in the years of COVID + toddler.) I feel a little like a bear coming out of hibernation.

One of the things I did this past week, partially in preparation for in-laws, is that we did a moderate sprucing up of the dining and living room areas:
- Got rid of a LOT of clutter, got a new bookshelf to store tools and other commonly-used items, and got a new table where the sides fold down! (the way that me and spouse work is that we tend to put things on any flat surface. So to hack this, we're going to keep one side folded down when we're not using it for an activity. Thus: no horizontal surface to accumuluate crud on!)
- We also worked on converting the old dining table into an outside table -- we've primed it, painted it a fun design, and after falling into a small youtube hole about epoxy resin vs polyurethane, I've ordered a quart of expoxy resin to seal the paint. I'm pretty excited about this!
- We also got a new futon mattress for the living room futon (it's not lumpy!), and threw out the janky old beanbag that was never the right shape. And I finally got to order enough pieces of a modular sectional to make an armchair! And, by not installing the legs of the armchair, its seat height is 13.5 inches instead of 17.5 inches, which is *great* for short people like me and spouse -- our feet can touch the ground! Anyway, I've wanted one of these ever since seeing the Sactionals ~5 years ago, so I'm excited to try at least an armchair. If it works well I might eventually replace my 10+ year-old college futon with a nice modular couch...

Anyways, now our living/dining room feels less oppressively cluttered, yay!

I haven't done much of the grading I'd promised myself I'd do, but I've really liked having an *actual break* from work. Around Thursday night I finally got to a stage of not-working that I actually pecked out a few words on a fic and did a rough plan for the Tape v Hurley comic. Next step will be to actually do rough layouts!
