How the heck is it August already?
Miss Rutabaga has only 2 more weeks of summer camp, then there's that awkward week where there's nothing planned for M-W, and I start school on Th-F. Yikes!
It's been a pretty rough July, tbh. After the July 4th comic I kinda lost a week or two -- I'd promised a teacher friend to do some teacher stuff in July instead of August, and that was a Bad Idea, because instead of actually doing it, my brain rebelled and just procrastinated for a week. That's a week that I was planning on being creative! And then there's the two weeks that were lost to friends visiting + spouse going on a work retreat + trip to Vermont. AND THEN I got COVID from the Vermont trip (spouse got it from the airport, then I got it from him. Thankfully Miss Rutabaga hasn't gotten it yet, but ye gods that's another week lost to brain fog and the dance of "trying to care for your child solo while simultaneously self-isolating." Aiyah! Anyway, the brain fog cleared yesterday, just in time to make way for some migraine goodness, so yay me, I guess.
I realized last night that I really need to read some familiar fic in order to sleep, but because I couldn't look at screens, I reread some Jinyong for the first time in probably 10 years (it's fun, he's a great storyteller! but I notice his poor treatment of women more on every reread, ugh). I think I'm also going to get an ereader that lets me read fics in bed on not-a-screen. (Probably a Boox? I like the idea of having access to Google Play.)
But anyway, precious little time left in the summer, aiyah. And even less brain power. :(
Today:
- Need to mail out two books for storenvy
- Laundry
This week:
- I'm going to poke at all my STS stuff and see how much I can hustle toward the finish line. Today/Tomorrow?
- Need to mark out some time this week or next to go to buy a Chevy Bolt (which has been its own saga, aiyah)*
- I'll spend Th/Fri really focusing on the summer work stuff
- This weekend is the surprise bonus Comickers pop-up, aiyah
Next week:
- Start ramping up for school
- I really do want to have time to look at Tape v Hurley
- Need to finish drawing the Anthology comic by Sep 1
- Bro will be home next weekend!
* At first I wanted a Nissan Leaf S+, which has the longer ranged but the simpler trimmings, but when I went to the Nissan dealership, they were like, "(a) the factory has stopped making the 2022 S+, and (b) in 2023 there *won't* be an S+ model, so either accept the fancier model with the longer range or the simpler model with the shorter range." And then the guy tried to sell me the fancier model for $45k!!! wtf! So then I'm like "well then I might as well get a Chevy Bolt." I drive to the Chevy dealership, and they're fresh outta Bolts, as well (demand far outstripping supply rn). So I get put on the wait list, and just got a call yesterday that there's a Bolt available -- an EUV, not an EV. After some research, it seems like the EUV is a side-grade -- it's longer and taller, but in ways that I don't really need. BUT it comes with a $6000 discount, plus it's available now, plus it has the new battery installed and not the explosive one, plus it also comes with $1000 towards building my own level 2 charger at home... so yeah, if things work out, I might have a new car soon?
