Back to school

School is starting officially on Monday! Well, we've already had 2 weeks of meetings, and Friday was preterm day so everyone was on campus to pick up laptops and hang out. I'm... vaguely prepped. I can probably be more prepped, but I have the first week planned out properly, and the rest of the semester vaguely planned. I'm finally teaching a class on Asian American history! Which means I'm still trying to build out the class, but it's pretty exciting to me, and I'm just having intense Feels every time I look at sources. San Francisco Chinese merchants writing a letter in the 1860s begging the city to let their kids go to school! Transcripts from the congress debate about the Exclusion Act! A woman writing about Chinese American identity from 1923! Man, I just love history, it fills me with such emotions.

Also dramatic is that Miss Rutabaga will be starting school with me on Monday!! She's on the other campus, so we'll need to figure out some busing/drop-off logistics, and I of course have first-day-of-kindergarten jitters (what if she can't figure out how the bathrooms work? how is she going to deal with cold lunches?) but I think she's really going to like the teachers and the class.

(I also have complicated feelings about the fact that we're sending her to a fancy private school for elementary school, sigh)

I also won't be teaching Chinese school this semester! Huzzah! It really frees up my stress level on Saturday. :)

Tomorrow:
- clean up car
- get Miss Rutabaga's start of school backpack and materials all set up
- laundry
- fix up dialogue of Wong Kim Ark and re-sync so that I can do more drawing during the week
- formalize new home schedule

Things coming down the pike:
- aim to get Wong Kim Ark comic done by Sept 1
- get Anthology ready for printers by Sept 15
- oh remember to do Chinese School taxes by Sept 15
