wow, has it been only a week?
Anyway, had some good talks with Spouse last Thursday and Friday -- he made a list of reasons why he firmly believes that the world will end imminently, and ... it's the usual stuff that he's been talking about for the last 5 years, so I pointed out some counter-examples. Then I pointed out that this is not a new conversation that we're having, and that when we actually talk about it, he's usually ready to agree that the world's end isn't imminent, but then 2 minutes later he'd say something like "well there will be no schooling in our doomed future." So then we talked about how he's gotten into a habit of falling back on pithy despair instead of actually considering hope seriously, and how he discounts hopeful news in the same way that he discounts his own daily accomplishments. So I think he's at a better place now. And I'm getting better at calling him on his BS. That was a pretty emotionally draining couple of days.
I've been plugging away at fics for the STS event, but I think I've hit burnout (probably because I decided to write 9 fics). So I'm going to give myself a week off from that, focus on getting my grades in, and then maybe come back to it next week (and maybe drop 2 or 3 of the fics)
This Saturday I'm also flying with Spouse and Miss Rutabaga to Chicago to visit the fam. Yay???
Can't believe this week is already half over. I feel like I should muster the energy to power through, but also: I don't wanna.
This week:
- Wed: see if I can get all my evals written. That's ~10 min per eval * 17 students = 170 minutes = 3 hours. So an hour in the afternoon and 2 hours at night
- Thurs: morning time to wrap up evals and any remaining school work. Comics club and Oddfellows at night.
- Fri: go to school to pick up stuff, and also do packing (maybe pack SCS work?)
- Sat: plane!
Also: need to write year-end email to Chinese School teachers by Friday latest.
Next week:
- hanging out at Chicago, doing the DEI institute M-Th
- poke at fics some more
- maybe SCS teacher stuff? Will I need to bring checks on plane?
Week of Jun 28:
- work on July 4th comic
- 9th grade lesson planning
Week of Jul 5:
- get STS stuff prepped to post
Week of Jul 12:
- run free and wild!
Week of Jul 19:
- teach comics class
Week of Jul 26:
- run free and wild!
Week of Aug 2:
- start prepping for school

Yeah, this is a thing that depression does. I've been -- I am, I continue to be on both sides of it. A Recurring Thing pops up in one's head with all the urgency and emotional pain it always carries, blinding one to the fact that one has danced this dance so many times before. I do this and so does my sweetie and we have to help each other wrangle it and not fall into each other's spirals. Good job on working on this with your sweetie!

I'm looking forward to seeing both of you when you come up to Oakland!
