Okay, I watched RK OAV II-1... so major review time!
first thoughts:
- OAV Kenshin is hot.
- So pretty! ::huggles OAV art::
- Beginning: huh? ._o
- no! more Saitou, please!
- KnK kiss: eeeewww.
Pros:
- Overall, it's a very cohesive narrative. The pacing, etc, is awesome. I have no complaints about any loose tangents.
- Of course you get the eye candy of OAV art and music, with the whole angsty-ness factor....
- Hiko!
- Kenshin = major hotness. Sorta like the best Watsuki Kenshin, but in softer OAV style.
Cons:
- The abundant KnK-ness. I wish there was more Megumi, more Sano, more Saitou, more Yahiko. As in acknowledging that those people had more to do with everything. (Megitsune got a 2-sec group shot, and Sano got a weird scene!) But then I have to admit that it would have detracted from the tight pace of the episode.
- KnK kiss is way too saccharine and in the wrong place and time. The "tadaima" about 5 minutes earlier works a lot better.
- What's with Kaoru telling Yahiko that "he hugged me last night?" What does Yahiko look like? An Agony Aunt?
- Jinchuu is supposed to pull people together, not drive people apart!
- More Enishi in the next ep, please!

GRIPE!
I dunno, personally I thought the pacing was quite awful (to a first time viewer it would've made noooo sense) and the switching back and forth is not cool. More like using the art to make the pacing look cool or something.
And Kenshin is practically Aoshi in a Kenshin suit. ;p Pardon me, I thought he was wussy.
But nevermind me, I gripe. I fully intend to smash this OVA for it's not-supposed-to-be-existing-anyway-ness and out-of-character-ness. Whatever happened to good ol' cartoon TV/manga series Kenshin with the silly succession techniques and the heartfelt storylines. I miss it.
