A few short notes

1) Hoosband posted about Rutabaga's dreams: https://refactorcamp.org/users/nindokag/statuses/101432731911836113

They are hilarious and apparently I am a villain who takes her bananas

2) I am officially done with narratives (until March)!
For those who don't know what I'm talking about -- basically at the snooty private school I work for, I need to write 300 words per student about how they're doing, what they need to work on, etc etc. 4 times a year, I need to write ~15,000 words in about a week. While doing lesson planning, etc. It's ... interesting.

3) Our school spends a whole day with assemblies and workshops to commemorate MLK every year. Last year the theme was religion (focusing on MLK as a minister). This year, the theme was the Poor People's Campaign. What was super cool was that we got Dr. Clarence Jones to come talk to us!! It was a fascinating experience.
- It was on MLK's birthday, and he would have been 90. (!!!!) That's... wow. If only.
- He mentioned that one of the ways that he was able to do speechwriting for MLK was because he had perfect pitch, so he could figure out what MLK sounded like. And it was definitely interesting during the talk when he said "this is what Dr. King would have said" and suddenly his tonality and phrasing changed.
- When he directly called out all of the privilege of the school (yay!), he said "I don't mean this as an accusation, I mean it as a challenge." As in: "I challenge you to do something with all of your privilege." Which is a pretty good way of framing it as a call to action.
- A lot of food for thought re: moral imagination and the focus on the action part of nonviolent action.

3.5) I did a quick workshop about the intersection of immigration and class, and as a result, I now finally have a better understanding of the visa system and also how immensely difficult it is to be an unskilled immigrant to the US. (I learn best when I'm trying to teach something, which is one of the reasons why I love teaching so much.)

4) Tonight I got home from work at 6pm and promptly passed out for an hour. Oof. I need to ... have some chill.
