WTF? Crazy OAV people!
Oh my god! Nooo! This isn't supposed to happen!
Spoilers:
(Taken from the SASSE list:)
"Kenshin dies in the second, and final part of SeisouHen. And the disease is apparently tuberculosis (consumption)."
Okay, time for a very distressed cry. NOOOOOOOO!
And now, allow me to state here:
WTF??!!!
Since when did consumption leave nasty wounds? And wasn't Kenshin happily riding back to Kaoru on Sano's big Mongolian horse?
And finally, the opinion of my esteemed brother, John:
@#$%^&*)(!
If Kenshin died riding home, that could have been because of an infected broken limb, like Cabrillo
did on San Miguel.

Well, our only hope is that the SASSE person is lying. Or confused. Because s/he *did* think consumption is leprosy. So there's still hope.... maybe, a little, somewhat, eck ^^;;;

Sorry, I'll be talking now like the semi-medical professional college student I am.
1. From what I know...tuberculosis--nor leprosy--doesn't present itself that way! (At least the way I saw in SH ep 1)
2. But yes, tuberculosis and leprosy are cousin diseases. TB can have skin manifestations, and leprosy can have a few lung problems. But usually those are special cases.
3. For the benefit of the people, I understand Japan used to have leprosy problems a while back. But they fixed it quite nicely, thanks to help and research from my countrymen! (Mabuhay!) I'm not so sure about TB, since we didn't particularly study it per country.
4. If that story they conjured up is to be believed, it really is possible for the redhead to pass the disease to his wife, if they're always close together in a house. If they aren't, as Kenji complains, the chances are a little slim. TB and leprosy are transmittable usually only by close contact.
So that's all this aspiring doctor has to say.

How was Kaoru to know, in those last fatal days, that a force stronger than love and darker than jealous, would come to claim Kenshin?
Kenshin: Oh.. these silly hakama.. they're too tight de gozaru... ::coughs and wheezes into a delicate lace hankie::

Everyone died from consumption back then.
