Baby Shower plans

So our wedding wasn't that conventional, and it turned out to be a lot of fun because we just asked ourselves, "what do we actually want to do with friends?" I'm taking a similar approach to this whole baby shower thing. I like the idea of getting friends and family together to kind of "prep" for the baby.

Anyway, after some thought (and some googling), I think this is what I want:

1) A bunch of interested friends to get together for hangouts. Specifically to:

  • tell silly baby stories (preferably things that sound disastrous but somehow the parents dealt with it)
  • decorate onesies and blankets with markers, puffy paint, and tie-dye
  • watch nostalgic kids shows from our childhood
  • give advice/feedback about the type of stroller/carseat/crib stuff that we should buy.

    2) Instead of a baby registry and stuff, I want to receive (if people have it to offer, of course):

  • gently used baby clothes, toys, etc (srsly, the less clothing and other materiel I have to buy, the better. Ugh materialism.)
  • GOOD baby books. (not joke baby books designed just to make the adults laugh, and not books that are basically some random adult’s memoirs about being a dad.)

I'm also thinking of having a "actually we don't need this. We still love you though" sort of policy? Would that be too awkward?

    Anyway, logistics-wise:

    - I need a place to host it in Oaklandia
    - I should compile a list of things that we already have / are set on buying.
    - Maybe google spreadsheet for people to fill in what they plan on bringing, so that I can shop for other things accordingly???
    - probably make sure decoration materials are baby-safe
