Rutabaga name list
So, the babbu is biologically female. And the Chinese name needs to be Ruo + 1 other syllable. (若 is the generation name in our family, and means “approximating” or “as if…”). Jono and I have been batting names around for the last month or so, and I think Narrowed down to ones that Hoosband and I both like:
Aurora. 夏若苒 (Ruoran “as if grassy greens”). Chinese pros: Ruoran has a nice alliteration with the double grass radicals. On the other hand: not a super common character. But at least it's pretty easy to write.
Roxanne. 夏若珊 (Ruoshan “as if a coral”) Chinese pros: Shanshan is a nice nickname. Chinese cons: coral is a tad too feminine.
Ruby. 夏若碧(Ruobi “as if jade green”) or 若壁 (”as if perfect refined jade disk”) Chinese pros: I like that both Ruby and Ruobi are precious stones. Chinese cons: the classier bi that I like is freakin' hard to write. And does the Bibi / baby thing work super well or super horribly?
But still, that's a nice set to play with. :) For the time being she's still my Rutabaga.
