Today I was supposed to do things, but instead I took a well-earned break. :) I think one thing that I've become better at is knowing when I need to just schlump around the house and not do too much -- not even drawing/comicking or other hobbies.
Since I've hit the 2nd trimester, my energy and appetite has also returned, which has been GREAT. I'm not back at 100%, but 80% is much better than 60%!! Anyway, I figure this is also a great time to get my bearings.
The last few weeks/months have been pretty busy --
July was (a) figuring out that I'm pregnant, and (b) ramping up for the Aug 1st launch. Even though I had to cancel the trip to China to visit my ailing uncle, I think it was overall a good choice.
August was (a) taking a major health hit from the whole pregnancy business, and (b) doing a lot of miscellaneous (1990 Institute, the Dystopian Chic wedding, hosting a friend, managing the busiest part of our shipping season, etc.)
September has bee (a) reaching a miserable equilibrium re: appetite and sleep, and (b) having a REALLY busy month. To wit:
- Roadtrip to Arcata with Jono to see Weird Al concert
- Joanne crashing for a few days for a conference
- Interviewed and hired for an animator position
- Chris staying over for Labor Day
- Retreat with mom
- Preparing 1000+ textbooks for the school
- Ben B crashing for a night
- Day-long teacher meetings
- Taiko Solano Stroll performance
- Doing year-end accounting
All of that happened in 2 weeks: 3 friends, 2 concerts, and 3 full days of meetings. On top of regular work. No wonder I barely had time to do anything else!
And then last week was a lot of "holy shit East Coast is actually using our webapp" stuff, and what also turned out to be a pretty busy weekend of: Friday night webinar, early Saturday morning taiko, Saturday afternoon presentations, followed by 4 hours of teaching on Sunday. Yeesh. Hoosband was also super busy that weekend, so by Sunday night we were both pretty pooped!
But this week has been much better! :D I've actually had time to relax!! Plus my appetite is coming back, so I've been cooking again. Haven't done any stir-fries yet (still leery of hot oils), but I'm determined to not have the food situation of the past 2 months become some new norm. p^_^q
I've also taken the opportunity to announce the pregnancy business on the facebooks and stuff, so yeah, that's out of the way, and most people who care to know now know. (Speaking of which: I love our taiko group -- they're like "eeeee! I'll help you babysit so that you can keep playing taiko!" and "here's some baby books that I found!" and "baby shower???? :D??" SUCH ADORBS.)
Looking forward -- this Sunday is the start of actual lesson teaching for Chinese School, so I should prepare! I think this will mean spending Sunday mornings grading and lesson prepping again, but I'm not super worried. At least Saturdays are now less a solid wall of STUFF from 8:30am to 5:30pm. That said, teaching 2 classes means being in teacher mode for 4 hours straight, and... that's a lot! It was pretty hard on me last Sunday, so I'm going to take some measures to make it easier for myself this week -- setting up a better sitting situation, making sure I get enough water, and getting the norms established more firmly so that I can relax a bit more while the kids are reading. If it continues being hard, I might also change the time of the classes so that they're farther apart, giving me more rest time in the middle. (I'm so glad I'm not doing actual full time teaching right now. Janet was right -- some people can't get pregnant while they're teaching -- it's too much.)
Next weekend is APE! I'm also going to take a chill pill there, as well. This year we're having 6 people tabling together across 2 tables -- our comics group has also grown! (They are also ADORABLE. We are constantly eating yummy cookies, drawing, and nerding out about everything, from the fact that loofahs are a melon to why Krillin is the most hardcore badass in DBZ, to Jaffa Cakes.) The next bit of Tisquantum isn't done, but I think I'll just do a low-stress office-printer print on Friday before the con -- it'll be sketchier, but I'll probably end up selling the same number anyways, and the profit margin is the same, so it's no bigs. Mostly I just don't want to be stressed. There's always next year.
Speaking of next year -- housing. Yeah. So Hoosband's work is (a) most likely moving across the bay, and (b) have a "make or break" deadline of March. Which also happens to be when the baby's due! :0 And right now we're kind of torn between Oakland and MV -- our comics club and my job is in Mountain View, as are my parents, but our taiko group and hoosband's job is in Oakland, as are a bunch of our friends. So what we're probably going to do for the next 3-6 months is kind of hop between the two -- we'll keep our MV apartment, and we're lucky enough to snag a room with an Oakland friend. Sundays and Thursdays we'd like to be in MV, but Saturdays and other weekdays we might be up in Oakland? It will be confusing. But I've had the 5 minute commute for over a year now, while Hoosband's doing the hour-long commute for the last 6 months, so it's only fair to switch the two for a bit. And once we have that sorta-figured out, we can also look into getting proper housing for us+babbu post-March. No telling where that's going to be yet, especially given Hoosband's job and also the possibility of both maternity and paternity leave...
Anyway, some fun/interesting times coming up!
