Tisquantum

It may not look it to anyone but me, but I just got over some major hurdles in Tisquantum. I've figured out the dialogue beats for the end to this chapter, and I've figured out the major bits of the next chapter, which, prior to yesterday was just labeled "post-apocalyptic wandering". In the process I've completely ditched 2 characters, and will probably have to make up a bunch more. I'll definitely need to do some character designs and probably a bit of research, but at least things are in motion again.

An interesting thing about Tisquantum, is that Sasaso using words to get his way is rarely a conflict. (His conflicts lie in having the confidence and faith necessary to completely push away his friends.) As a result, I'm still not quite sure how much of his political maneuvering I should show. But that's a later chapter. I'm hitting that point in the middle of a series (the book 4 of 7 or the book 3 of 5) where loose ends need to be tied up while new threads need to be started. It is not the easiest, but given that Squanto is basically about a person who, after losing his home and his family, can never quite tie himself down to anything, this "starting afresh" tends to happen rather frequently.

Sometimes I look back to the comic decisions that I made at the beginning and shake my head: why did I decide not to use internal monologues? Why is everything so sad and lacking in whimsy? (Whimsy is like my native frequency). Why did I pick a character who basically hates everyone? Why did I go for a wide paper ratio instead of the standard 6:9? ALL GOOD QUESTIONS. But I'm going to keep going, because I like where this story is going.

There's about a month and a half before I have to start figuring out printing stuff (Best to give Ka-Blam 2 months lead), so I'll definitely be able to finish the 3-5 pages left in this chapter, but definitely not enough time to get the next chapter done. Maybe I'll get a few pages done and print that as a "preview"? It'd be a 20-pager, I think???

At least I'll have the Anthology for sale at the table, so there'll be *something* new. Oh, and also patreon prints. :)

Before Kitsu comes tomorrow and after I get back from taiko I'm gonna have to do some apartment cleaning, but maybe I'll also be able to get the next few pages laid out? (hopefully all the way to the end of the chapter!!)
