Life update
The last two weeks have been much better for me in terms of general headspace. I think my last post here really crystallized something for me: Even though the work I did as a teacher was very miscellaneous, it was all under the title of "teacher", and so ultimately served a single purpose. In contrast, the work I do now is sometimes teacher, sometimes administrative assistant, sometimes principal, sometimes HR manager, sometimes project coordinator, etc. So the miscellany doesn't get a singular focus. Realizing this has helped me deal with it a lot better! :D So now instead of feeling overwhelmed by a bunch of differently miscellaneous tasks with varying urgency and relevance, I instead think in terms of the roles I play. Like "I'm going to do these administrative tasks today! Because I am an administrator!"
I don't know why it helps, but it totally does.
Also today I vacuumed the apartment. This is quite an accomplishment!
I've also started back up with Chinese medicine, but I'm trying to stay not-stressed about it. p^_^q
The Ferguson stuff has been distressing to me, and today I was at school and ... everyone at school just wanted to talk about it in a very theoretical and clinical way, claiming that it wasn't about racism, or discussing whether there was sufficient evidence for an indictment, or saying that the shooting was too muddy a case and should not be used to fight out the larger issues. And I'm like... Really? This is the way we're going to talk about it? While kids are getting shot out there? This is the place I want to go back to working at?
Having the benefit of talking about this from an "objective" perspective is such privilege.
I have a pretty busy December coming up!
- Dec 11-14th: conference in Phoenix
- Dec 16-22nd: friends visit, and also dealing with art yuletide stuff
- Dec 22nd - Jan 9th: India trip!
And then after I get back, I think I'll be ready to re-start Tisquantum again. (Ah, Tisquantum, my unloved baby. ::pats:: )
