Wow, I haven't been on my computer for a long time!

First, you get to hear about my weekend, because I'm vain like that. But since this will be a pretty long entry, I'm adding an LJ-cut here, to save some space.

Friday afterschool, I hopped over to Katharine's house for a crash course on rocks and minerals. Then that night, I fell asleep during Wheel of Fortune, (after the teen championship thing on Jeopardy, where the final answer is: The phrase that is the title of this 20th century British novel means "beezelbub". Everyone put stuff like "The Devil", while I was half-asleep and mumbling Lord of the Flies. Yay LoF.) anyway, I woke up at 8:30 am, so yay 13-hour sleep.

Saturday I got roped into starting a model airplane with John, but then Princeton interview guy called and I spent an hour and a half blabbing about everything. Not very organized, but oh well. Then it was SciOly time. We cheerfully sawed alluminum in the rain. Yay SciOly. Saturday night... I don't remember... oh yes, we re-watched the Chinese New Year's Eve festival that we taped. Lots of fun. This year's show was especially good. There's this medley of classical pieces that were added lyrics, so that was awesome, gotta show you guys some time. There's also this guy who was singing while sitting down. Well, more like squatting, but I was totally blown away. I mean, one guy on this gigantic stage, no dancers whatsoever, beautiful voice, and so much at ease that he sits down on these steps in the middle of the stage. Wow. There were cool little skits that non-Chinese won't understand, but was very fun. And then the best Chinese Opera singers each got to sing a few lines. Wow. muchly goodness.'

Sunday, woke up at 10, puttered around, then went to Chinese school. Lisha wants to go to Fanime with me. I don't even know if they got the money or not. When am I supposed to get a confirmation? Anyway, spent an hour and a half making little cards on Rocks and Minerals. I started with Albite and got as far as Beryl. 10 minerals. It's funny that Beryl accounts for 6 different gemstones, while Corundum accounts for 3 more. ^^;; Sunday night we watched some more of the Chinese New Year's Eve tape. I also re-read The Princess Bride, for some odd reason. Plus the first chapter of Buttercup's Baby that was included in the book. You know something's wrong when the first chapter is titled, "Fezzik dies". ;_; Weird magic stuff and Florin trees. And Inigo in love.

Monday, I woke up at 9:15, and spend the morning tidying up my room. Had a few moments of panic when couldn't find Chicago acceptance, but then thought really hard: "If I were to keep something in a very safe place so that I can't find it later, where would it be?" And the answer is: My Cabinet. And lo, it was there. After lunch I set about doing more mineral stuff, so now I've made it through mineral #20, Dolomite. I'm going out to dinner later tonight, but I'll see if I can get through mineral #30 by then. How many are there total? 57 minerals, 7 metamorphic rocks, 10 igneous, and 16 sedimentary. It's kind of annoying how very few minerals are actually have only one distinctive color. (so far, almandine, amazonite, azurite, copper, and epidote)
