(no subject)

Listened to a lunchtime talk today by someone who worked for the Romney Campaign say things like,

"We didn't expect the African American and Latino turnout to continue the trends of 2008"
Translation: Oh noes, who would have thought that once a non-white citizen is registered to vote and feel like their vote makes a difference, that they might continue to vote?

"Obama ran ads in very conservative districts specifically targeting the minority and women who live there."
Translation: Oops, we forgot that the servants that live and work here also vote. Betrayed by our very own!!

"Obama used these so-called women's issues like abortion and rape to drive a wedge between us"
Translation: white women are our people, and they should just have the same opinion as white males have about abortion and rape.

"Obama undid our gains in Ohio by registering 120,000 African American voters. The vote difference in Ohio was 100,000, and that's how he made up for it."
Translation: How could he? Helping black people get the right to vote -- it's like they're citizens who are entitled to vote or something.

"Obama used the auto bailout to drive a wedge in Ohio." "People thought the economy was bad, but they blamed Bush instead of Obama, which doesn't make sense at all! They didn't hold Obama accountable for his 4 years if office."
Translation: We don't understand why people in Ohio who directly benefited from Obama policies might consider that a reason to vote for him -- it's a wedge issue! Why do they keep blaming Bush?

"Obama used a lot of wedge issues to suppress votes for Romney -- making people not want to vote for him."
Translation: Your issues are not important to you, and if you're not voting for Romney due to these issues that you "care about", it's because Obama is "suppressing" you.

"Obama used very targeted ads and put people in categories like "women" or "Hispanics", while we just tried to have a more universal message about the economy and treat people like equal individuals."
Translation: Look at how non-racist I am! (Even though I just spent the last 30 minutes blaming the women, latinos, and blacks for messing up the election by exercising their right to vote)

The cluelessness is pretty amazing.
