t-4 days until China
I'm feeling strangely calm -- packing for 10 weeks is roughly the same as packing for 2 weeks, since beyond 2 weeks you'll be buying local, anyways (plus that's kind of the point of this 10-week endeavor: living local). And I've packed for 2 weeks plenty of times -- packing for 2 weeks is essentially packing for 1 week but picking clothes that can be easily worn twice with different match-ups. So... no bigs.
I'm a bit more worried about the actual other planning for non-China parts -- Tanzania is shaping up, but slowly, since Joanne is in one time zone (the Caucasus) and the relatively reasonable tour arranger is in another time zone (either Tanzania or Norway -- not sure). But it should be set in another day or two.
I was worried about getting everything graded today, but I got it 90% done, with relative ease. So... go me!
At t-4 days, you stop buying new food and start idly making a list of "gotta take with" stuff in your head, so that later, at t-2 days you'll remember to put it by your travel bag.
Here's some of that list:
-Bathing suit. There be beaches on Zanzibar.
- Mega USD for Tanzania -- if Peru was any indication, many places might put greater trust in the USD than their own currency.
-Malaria pills (note: start first pill on Wed)
-all sorts of mosquito protection. While Joanne is more succulent than me, I am more succulent than Jono. (DEET wet wipes = awesome)
- Yellow Fever Vaccination Proof
- All the Electronics. All of them. (incl. tablet and laptop)
- tranjo?????? ambitious
-plug adaptor(s)
-sunscreen
- hat and fan and umbrella
Also, gotta remember to
-do some more Chinese school related work
- get cashes from bank
- call credit card companies with travel info
-look in dad's mysterious suitcase
-figure out Friday departure logistics
- ask post office about holding crappy mail?? (Or just let mom deal with it?)
-clean out my dropbox -- work stuff should go on work computer, home stuff on home computer
-set up hotmail forwarding in case gmail doesn't work in China (related: have backups of google docs)
Oh hey, my bro has a tumblr where he and a friend put things on their heads. You might find it amusing. http://ihatmylife.tumblr.com/
