Keepin' Busy --- note to body: please keep up
December is a very schizophrenic month in my line of work -- The first half is spent rushing around trying to finish up all the assignments and finals and grading for the semester. Everyone at school is teetering on the edge of burnout: The students who are trying to get their grade as high as possible before the finals, struggling to remember concepts from September, juggling all of the material and finals stress from 7 classes; The teachers who are trying to keep the students calm, which often involves designing and handing out a lot of review material and meeting with lots of panicked students at the last minute, trying to finish up that most recent pile of ungraded work so that we can hand out up-to-date grade reports as often as possible, and wondering if we've really taught all that we wanted to teach this semester.
Then: it all ends, and what follows are two weeks of trying not to think about school at all. Friends are coming in from out of town, and we are also flying to Chicago for Christmas. Suddenly all of my disparate friend groups in the Bay Area are planning meets and parties: High school friends, various college friends, teacher friends, gamer friends, family friends, taiko group, etc etc. Presents, dinner parties, attempts to reconnect, all the various time pieces of my life awkwardly trying to fit together.
As a result, the 2 week downtime is illusory. BUT! That doesn't stop me from being ambitious. Yes, it is time for the To Do List (did you expect anything different?)
This coming week:
- Call and schedule appointment with doctor to get an ultrasound of my ovaries, ask about this cough I've had for 2 months, and ask why I've been menstruating FOR THE LAST MONTH. (WTF, uterus?)
- Play phone safari until I find the right ADP representative to talk to about various payroll issues.
- Start practicing banjo again (CALLOUSES I WANT YOU BACK)
- Figure out February and April break plans (visiting Kim and Peru??!)
- Finalize any Christmas shopping
- Stop marathoning crime procedurals on Netflix. (BONES I'm looking at you.)
Soon:
- Look over and revise script for next part of Sixteen
- Work with Jono to establish concrete goals for Winter Break Coding Project
- Work on Winter Break Coding Project
School officially ends 12/20. I get a day off and then we're off to Chicago. After we get back from Chicago it'll be a flurry of various friend visitations. So Winter Break Coding Project might not happen. :( But at least I've gotta try!
In the mean time: Body, WTF? I feel like I must have lost a liter of blood today. :/
