Today started bad

Starting last Friday, I've been teaching an extra class because a fellow teacher is out on medical leave, which has been pretty stressful because not only do I have to prep for her class, I also lose the hour I would have spent prepping for my class, which, all told, makes me lose about 1.5-2 hours every day.

So I've been feeling really burnt out, and today I was just headachey and spacey all day. When I'm like this, the first thing to go out the window is classroom management -- I just can't bring myself to care. Thankfully, today was mostly proctoring Buddhism tests, so I didn't have to teach. On the downside, I did have to manage a lot of panicked/stressed teenagers. I soon got tired of answering the same question 5 times, and them expecting information just to be spoon-fed to them. Suffice to say, by the end of the day, I was ready to get out of school and declare the day a mulligan. Thankfully, my Independent Study student cancelled our meeting this afternoon, so I snuck out of school early and got home by 3:30pm, and promptly napped until 4:10pm or so.

I thought I'd left my cell phone at school, which I needed to get because I needed to call the health insurance company to make sure that my dad's health insurance is paid (for some reason, his bill comes at a different time from everyone else's, so I always miss paying his. It's a hassle). I was worried that I would need to brave the 5pm traffic to get the phone (needed to do this by 7pm). But instead I did some grading. Then my phone started ringing! It turns out I had put the phone in a side pocket of my handbag. Yay! (Jono called and said that he was going to accordion lessons, so we made plans to meet downtown for food) I called the insurance company and it turns out I'd actually paid this back on 11/11. Go Past-Me!

So, reinvigorated by the nap and no longer stressed about phone stuff, I graded a bunch more essays, and then met up with Jono for dinner, and then sat at boba and caught up on some of the grading for another class. Yay! So even though today started bad, I ended up getting a bunch of grading done.

Grading queue:
- Grade Imperialism Test
- Grade Buddhism quiz
- Grade Buddhism Test
- Grade TIB 2.0 from beginning of the semester (new plan: abandon rubric)
