Life Update
Life is pretty good right now!
I posted part II of Wuxia comic. There's still part III and part IV to go, but I think I'll take a short break -- I find myself wanting to deviate from the original story, and I've yet to decide if that's a good thing or not. As I'm adapting this comic, I've noticed a total lack of agency and competence on the part of the women in this story that is quite irksome. The original story also had a very cavalier attitude towards brutality that I'm not quite happy about, either. On the other hand, I do like most of the ending to the story, so I'll have to figure out if the ending can still stand with me tweaking how we get there.
In the mean time, I'm ready to work on some other projects. For one, I'm pretending to be the Military Minister for Matriarchy on Twitter, which is pretty fun. Plus I'm learning how to use Twitter.
My Chinese Media Independent Study student and I might have finally figured out a good way forward for the rest of the year: podcasts. We're going to try doing monthly podcasts. So he'll spend 2 weeks learning about a topic, and then 2 weeks preparing and making a little podcast on the topic. We've been struggling because his Chinese language ability is not enough to allow him to properly consume Chinese media, but he wants to talk about it. This way, he can consume it with some assistance, and still get the oral exercise that he needs.
Tonight I'm staying late at school to watch the school play, "Spring Awakening," which is apparently somewhat risque. I've stolen some food from the Thanksgiving lunch and am now having a nice dinner.
On the November/December Docket:
- Visit Chicago and Jono's side of the family for Thanksgiving and Christmas.
- Grade 50 student essays (goal: grade at least 5 a day for next 10 days)
- Knit mohawk hat for Bro? (maybe on the plane to Chi-town?)
-Finish Matriarchy poster and t-shirt design (hopefully by early December)
- Pick a song to play with Alexis and get back into practicing the banjo.
-Host another mini-RPG night if possible. Possible dates: 12/17, 12/31, 1/1
- Look into learning Javascript and HTML 5 to make some simple games that I can use in the classroom -- no point waiting around for Jono to do it. (Winter Break)
