Apartments...

You may remember that I have certain issues with the current apartment, today we made an appointment to look at another apartment that we saw on Craig's List.

 Current PlacePotential Place
Location 10 minute walk to 24-hour Safeway
30 minute walk to downtown Mountain View
25 minute drive to my work place
15 minute bike ride to Jono's work place
(S+) 5 minute walk to Ranch99, 10 minute walk to Nijiya
20 minute walk to downtown Mountain View
25 minute drive to my work place
8 minute bike ride to Jono's work place
Living Comfort (J+) Swimming Pool
(J+) Good Laundry Facilities
(+) Good sound proofing
Bigger rooms
Central air/heating
(S+) Kitchen cold water is not yellow
(J+) Dishwasher presumably more functional

Price $1800 per month (+) $1500 per month
(J+) = important plus for Jono       (S+) = important plus for me     (+) = important plus for both of us

As you can see, Jono has much less incentive to move.  Plus moving is a pain.   We told the guy at the potential place that we'll think it over and get back to him tomorrow.  What do you think?

Agreed. Central air/heating is a big deal in your part of the world, and I can tell you as someone who has to put everything in the car and schlep to a laundromat, good laundry facilities are huge.

If it were a choice between this apartment and that apartment, and you had to live with the consequences forever, this would be a really tough decision. But if you're patient and your lease dates are not a huge issue, I bet you can find a place that has nice walking distances, not-yellow tap water, and a swimming pool/laundry. Plus moving is a pain. So if it were me (and if I could afford to spend either amount on an apartment!), I'd stay where I was -- and keep an eye on Craigslist.

I was going to vote for the other place, based on location and water. But I mostly just think you guys should live somewhere that has drinkable, non-scary water. If not this place, then somewhere else.

Fair enough. Your place just has a lot of problems, given the rent. And the rent difference between the two places is enough that you guys could hire movers and still recoup the costs after a month or two.
