So today at 10am, I was like, "hey, it's 2 weeks before ACen. Maybe it's time to start making the costumes."

So I did! The afternoon was fun times at watching the Blue Scholars in a park at Berkeley with Jeremy and then have Ethiopian/Eritrean with Pren + Cage, this is what I had by tonight (with image for comparison



It's Taisou from Giant Robo. I'm going to be Youshi, his wife.
So it's kind of a "rough draft". But yay for simple costumes based off of actual clothing! (Specifically, based off of Suikoden -- 水浒传，and Taisou is afaik 神行太保戴宗, Youshi is a female version of 青面兽杨志. o.O;;)

I was using fabric that I bought back in 2005 for Al, so I was short about a yard, but I made it work, I think... The sleeves and pants are not as poofy as I'd have liked.

Things to do for Taisou
- hem the head scarf and the red scarf
- make the bottom of the pants legs poofy
- consider better "bandages" -- maybe hem or add a line of black to make it stand out more?
- add zipper to pants and top half of the black thing.
- figure out a good belt system paint white belt

- Make Youshi (which will be even easier.)

Shopping list:
- 3 Zippers: pants, black thing, youshi skirt
- reddish brown fabric for Youshi? (Or maybe just a reddish-brown shirt that I can tie around my waist?)
- look for brown belt
- black slip-on shoes for Jono
- bandages?? White fabric?

Completely weirded out by the concept of 杨志 being a wife. o.O But Jono is perfect even if I don't know wtf. How do you keep finding characters with AWESOME SIDEBURNS??

Yeah, I try not to think too much about Youshi=杨志, cause that's kinda... weird. He was kinda at the bottom of my list of Suikoden characters, what with whipping the help and being bitter and angry about EVERYTHING. Youshi, on the other hand, has an awesome beat stick and is helpful and nice. And is all blue, instead of a fugly blue splotch on der face.

I think Jono just gravitates towards characters with sideburns. That's in fact the first requirement he has: that the character has awesome sideburns.

I already ordered it from some sketchy "feng shui imports" website (they were selling it for $6, and it beats driving to and wandering around Chinatown). I'll just have to paint it.
