Day 2

Okay, so I spent the evening shopping and goofing off by watching DBZ (surprisingly decent in Japanese! But Funimation has seemed to have found a way to shut down watching of episodes on youtube...? Anyways, I found myself watching episode 85 in Japanese with Spanish subs...)

So, yes, only spent the last 20 minutes or so on this, but it's something.

Tingyan looked over the registration form. "So.. Mr. Li, you'll only be staying for the next two nights? Would you like a master room or a corner room?"

The young man said simply, "Corner room, please," as he glanced at the darkened front desk and then back at Tingyan. He was dressed in the long robe of a scholar, a bit dusty from the road, and with his large bulky packages and mild manners, seemed like every other scholar on the road during exam season. But his eyes said something different.

"Most certainly, sir. Please follow me to your room." Tingyan lit a lantern and led the way down one long corridor and up another long hallway to a small square courtyard enclosed by 3 corner rooms and 3 master rooms. Tingyan was careful to hold the light away from the hole in the wall by the west master room.

"I hope you sleep well, sir. Our restaurant is open from 6am to 9pm. If you would like to order some late-night snacks, you can find me at the front desk." She pointed to the corner room and then bowed out as quickly and politely as she could. She didn't like these martial types, and she hurried toward the safety of her front desk.

When she first started, she didn't know to look for the spirited eyes and the agile steps. She just knew some would seem particularly handsome or alluring. But she quickly learned that those who travelled late at night and carried themselves with precision often brought with them the most property damage, which was why they were relegated to The Far Courtyard.

The problem with the Far Courtyard, of course, was that it's such a long way back to the front desk, and it had just passed midnight.
