Oh yeah, yesterday
Ooops, forgot to talk about yesterday. So after lolling around on Friday, Saturday I decided to try to something more active -- namely, sorting out various boxes and unpacking what I can. There's still a lot of stuff that needs sorting, but now I have a sewing table! Slowly but surely, we are diminishing the number of boxes. Soon there will only be the "miscellaneous" and the "somewhat important pile of papers" left. Those are the hardest to sort through.
The apartment that we moved into has the benefit of a larger living room, an extra bathroom, and an extra 14x14 bedroom. We've designated the extra bedroom as a "craft room" -- namely, my sewing, knitting, and art; Jono's warhammer, electronics, and art. The extra bathroom is mostly helpful when both of us want to poop at the same time. The larger living room means that we have enough space for bookshelves for all of our books, plus the TV + game table can co-exist.
There are some disadvantages, however. This extra space comes by connecting the apartments into one big block. Whereas before we were in a building with 2 downstairs and 2 upstairs tenants, now we're in a building with 6 downstairs and 6 upstairs tenants. This means a variety of things -- (a) we can hear each other all too well, (b) our water temperature is affected by (and affecting) 11 other tenants, and (c) the aforementioned wiring problem. Also, our bedroom is oddly slanted, which means that one side of our bed is flat, and the other side is super-slanty. But overall it's pretty good.
Couples life is good, but sometimes it's hard to be productive. I'm used to being productive when I'm living as a single person, but when there's another person to account for in terms of activities and desires, it get a little more confusing. Good thing I can communicate with Jono! So sometimes I'll say, "I need to do grading tonight", and he'll say, "I need to work on code tonight". But a part of me still hasn't gotten over the training that "hey, I should socialize because he's here". On the other hand, it took me a day of watching Big Bang Theory to get back into "productive single person". Anyway, something to work on!
