Watchmen

Watched Watchmen last night with Jono and Cat.

- I liked how perfectly cast it was. The actors did a wonderful job being the different characters
- I'm okay with cutting out the comic book and the Under the Hood, although the downside is that you don't get the newstand-New Frontiersman-WalterKovacs corner, and so you never really make the connection.
- I think I preferred alien beastlies to "Rogue Doc-Manhattan" explosions, just because aliens are far more... alien, and would make a more plausible "let's ally together as earthlings against a common but unknowable enemy!" Whereas Doc Manhattan still feels ... human. If it were to work, they'd have to make Doc Manhattan more violence-prone and inhuman.
- I loved all of the shots that mimicked panels.
- They had lots of fear of nuclear war from the top-down instead of the bottom-up. As in, worried Nixon instead of hoodlums.
- I liked how they carried through the theme that Watchmen are not perfect people, nor are they perfectly just vigilantes. Like Dan and Laurie doing it mostly for the "fun" -- and the violence is the gritty, arm-breaking kind, not the POW! kind. And they're normal people with normal fallacies. And of course, the final joke, the one that the Comedian couldn't handle. Who Watches the Watchmen, indeed.
