New Year's Resolutions
Resolution time! Let's see how I did for last year's resolutions
Resolutions for 2008
1) Work on health consistency. (In terms of exercise, sleep, food, etc)
B-. Periods getting more regular, and had regular exercise for first half of year. However, that was disrupted by summer activities and then having essentially 3 residences and 2 jobs. Also, have been over-eating chocolate and meat. (Always so many excuses for chocolate eating! Bad Sushu)
2) Work to be a good teacher, and not just a nice teacher.
B+. I'm having more time for lesson planning this year, but prepping for 2 classes and also maintaining a healthy out-of-school life has been keeping me busy. I am more consistent with teacher presence and classroom management, but I feel the freshman class slipping from me sometimes. Gotta rein them in! Also, I worry that I'm not doing enough analytical thinking with my classes. Putting in the effort, but still a bit short of an A.
3) Learn things outside of teaching: 1 academic thing and 1 skill. (Maybe classes during the summer? Or at least some good reading. Or learn to dance, make pottery, sing, or whatever.)
B-. Very half-assed. Read half of Foucault's Discipline and Punishment. Took half a class at Stanford on the History and Mystery of Architecture. Went to some salsa lessons with Stephanie.
4) Follow through on your end of the bargain. Don't promise what you can't follow through.
Okay, this is VERY VAGUE. I will resolve not to have future vague resolutions. Follow-through *is* an issue with me, though. I think I'm better at it now than before, though still pretty flaky. B+?
5) Create something. (A costume, a story, a picture, etc.)
A-. China Comic! Also, I made a pot holder for Jono's Mom's Christmas present.
6) Meet people. (Face it, girl, you're 24. And next school year should be easier.)
Well, I didn't end up going out on dates with "new people", but as Jono reminded me, I did meet people in China, and at my new job, and Jono's family and co-workers, and Stephanie's friends, etc. So maybe that counts as "meet new people?" Meeting people in China is always hard, so maybe that counts double?
All right. I guess overall grade of B or so.
Now, 2009 Resolutions:
1) Be in a healthy, growing relationship with Jono
2) Keep improving as a teacher. Specifically: classroom management skills. (This implies that I will get a job as teacher again next year, and hopefully start my second year of the teacher training program so that I can get my official credential)
3) Help get Chinese School to a stable place -- in terms of management, curriculum, teacher support, etc.
4) Do something TOTALLY AWESOME. Something that would make T-Rex proud.
5) Keep up the China Comic.
6) Keep up better with friends. I've seen a lot of Ben and Alexis, and also Joanne from the road trip, and anyone still in Chicago/ACen, but not the other peeps.
7) Learn a new skill or academic thing. Not-half-assedly.
2009 GO!
