Miscellany
- I'm taking a day off from school today... to deal with Chinese school stuff. (taxes, bank accounts, etc). Just dropped off the lesson plans at school. I hope this doesn't set my work back too much.
- I'm waiting for the traffic to get better (after 9, hopefully), before I head down to Palo Alto.
- Thursday isChinese Lunar New Year! Yay!
- I was going to teach about Charlemagne, but I suddenly found myself teaching the Crusades. Go figure.
- My shoulder hurts after playing the Wii. It still hurts after stopping since Wednesday. It's in fact worse today. (Good thing I'm taking a day off, I don't think I can write on the board.) I think it's been exacerbated by the fact that I sleep on this shoulder. The internet has not been very helpful. Most of the comments are "You guys need to work out more" Or "The soreness will go away in a few days". I *know* this isn't ordinary muscle soreness. I like ordinary muscle soreness. This is joint stress and inflammation. So I take my aleve-alternative and hope for the best. But still, stupid internet comments frustrate me. Being only able to play the Wii in a one-week-on, one-week-off basis frustrates me.
- I have a big long entry started about the State of the Teaching, talking about power that I don't feel I have a right to, and responsibility that keep me awake, as well as the joys and pains of having essentially a daily deadline and preparing 3 different lessons. Of being performer, mentor, and cop for 6 hours a day. And then preparing for the next day. But it's not really done yet.
- My BTSA mentor said, "I didn't have a social life like you do in my first year". Yes, hello Parents, Chinese School, and BADASS. Good-bye, relaxing weekends. Parents want me to give up BADASS because it's to much of an energy drain on Friday nights. I tell them that I make the decision about physical vs. emotional energy on a case-by-case basis.
- It's hard to stain a futon frame when you get home after 7 and it's too dark/cold out to do anything.
- I've been doodling during staff meetings. Currently I have a downer comic about stress, and the first 3 panels of a comic that might involve a cross-dresser. Tomorrow is another staff meeting.

The moral of the story is that everyone wants Sushu time.

If your shoulder is hurting, maybe you should try stretching before using the Wii? It's exerise, after all, and a lot of joint stress comes from working out without warming up properly first. Also, if it's not getting better, you should see a doctor or physical therapist who might be able to give you some exercises and stretches that will help make your shoulder better able to cope.
I'd like to read your SotT sometime when you have energy for it. And also your doodle-comics.
Good luck trying to balance your various commitments. I seem to remember you having similar trouble back in Chicago, Ms. SMAC/animekai/Calligraphy club officer. I know parents and Chinese school are important, but don't let your parents pressure you into dropping something that gives you joy! And know that you're always welcome to come visit if you need to escape. ^_^
