My favorite Chinese song as a kid. I'm just happy that he did the full song. (People nowadays tend to cut out the final verse because it's about Chairman Mao). And the 马头琴! <3
Man, I hope American racial construction don't filter too much into the Chinese world view.
A rough translation:
(It uses very simple vocabulary because it's supposed to be a Mongolian folk song. So it's easy to learn and sing. Everything rhymes without trying very hard. I've also kept the original syntax)
In the blue blue sky, float white clouds
Under the white clouds, horses run
Snapping the whip, it sounds everywhere
Hundred birds soar at once
If someone comes to ask me,
"What is this place?"
I will proudly tell him,
"This is my homeland"
The people here love peace,
And also love their homeland
Singing about our new life
Singing about the Communist party
Chairman Mao, and the Communist party,
Nurture our growth
On the grasslands rises an eternal sun.
On the grasslands rises an eternal sun.
(Yeah, most people nowadays stop after verse 2, because loving your homeland is okay, but loving Chairman Mao is a little hokey. Also, eternal sun is actually "un-setting".)
Hmm, since I typed it out, might as well try something that matches the music a bit more...
blue blue sky~ float white clouds
Underneath the horses run
Snapping the whip, its sounds ring out
Hundred birds soar as one
If someone comes~ to ask of me,
"What sort of place is~ this~?"
I would proudly answer him that
"This is my home~land"
The people here~ dearly love peace,
They also love their homeland~
Singing about our bright new life
Singing about the CCP
Chairman Mao and the CCP,
Nurture us to maturity.
Over the grasslands rises~ a shining eternal sun.
Over the grasslands rises~ a shining eternal sun.
