Days

I've decided to try for a "work hard, play hard" lifestyle. >insert image of Osaka going "shikari.. shikari..."<

Saturday:
- planned on doing work. Didn't do work. Spent the morning watching West Wing, and the afternoon chillin' with Palo Alto peeps and talking about academia, and futures, which sometimes meant the same thing but sometimes didn't. Dinner con la familia. And then after-dinner meetings about various things. Lots of fun, but slightly worrisome that I just didn't feel like doing work on Saturday. (In future, would not have Sundays to do work as will have Chinese School).

Sunday:
- Got up late-ish (10am), but then lounged about the apartment waiting for church people to clear out of my classroom (2pm). Put up some posters, did lesson planning. Dinner break was at the Happi House. Was equal parts horrified/mesmerized by fake teriyaki. Next time I'll try the teriyaki burger and the tempura onion rings. (Apparently there is NOTHING good at the Almaden shopping center. Except for Costco, Trader Joe's, and Citibank, and none of those are for eating dinner.) Gave up grading and went home at around 10pm. (Looks like Sunday's not good for doing work, either. Partially because of the Church premises thing.

Monday:
- Cut out of class early for an ankle appointment in Palo Alto. (Turns out I still have residual health insurance! Yay!). So x-ray shows nothing disastrous with ankle. Yay! Mom finished the summary for her book, so I read it and gave "layman's commentary". As in "I'm sure this makes sense if I were in the math education business, but right now, I'm like, buh." Pretty interesting stuff. (Helping mom always makes me feel productive, because it might... er... affect something bigger than me?) And then came back to school at around 9-ish to do some grading. Set up temporary grade book via Excel!! Went home at 11.

Today:
- At school from 7:30-8pm. And now back at school to do more grading. :/ But at least I will have clean clothes for and lunch for the week!!

So after a week of teaching, 2 conclusions about my work/life schedule:
- doing any work during weekends is difficult, as would like to have a life on weekends, instead of stuck in a classroom grading. Brain needs rest. In the future, would aim to have no school work to do on the weekends!
- always need a nap after teaching. Air conditioning is also off 3-6pm. Perhaps go home after school, and then come back after dinner? However, also issue of classroom being used from 7-10 on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, by church people.... Hmm.... Tuesday is really best day to do work because done teaching class at noon. :D

Work is also thwarting some of my efforts to be productive/ have fun.
Like, I can't go to the post office because it opens after I start, and closes the same time I get out of work.
I need to work on my bike, and on Saturdays I don't want to trek downtown, so that leaves after work... and after work I want to go home, curl up on the papa-chan, and have dinner while watching tv... plus I forget to bring a change of clothes to get all dirty.

It makes me wonder how some businesses do business while only being open during business hours when everyone else is... presumably working?
