weird hangup about rain
As Chicago people surely know, I hate rain.
- it's wet
- it's heavy
- it goes on and on and on and on
- it follows you. The wetness on your umbrella doesn't go away when you enter a room.
It didn't used to be that way. I used to like rain. Sure, it was annoying that my bike seat always got wet, and I hated wearing a wet soggy helmet, but I liked jumping over puddles, and watching rain drip from the overhangs... But something changed, I think, when I went to Chicago. I went there expecting all the rain of California to be replaced by snow. Imagine the shock when it started raining. And the wind made staying dry almost impossible. And then the roads became lakes, and I'd get stranded on these islands of asphalt with nowhere to go. On the other hand, snow is white and shiny, and descends slowly. You don't get wet as quickly, and you can pat off the excess snow when you enter a room.
Today is the first rain of Palo Alto, and while driving home from class, I just felt my mind shut down. Sure, I was tired of school and tired of being socially inept, but there's something final in the rain that was just... ugh.
I need to change this mentality around, though. Cause there's a lot more rain coming...

How do plants survive with no rain for so long? Where do they get their water? Do they go out to the store and buy bottled water?
Snow does have its advantages, but rain can be nice. I think you're already getting half into the mindset that rain can be a good thing.

On the other hand, imagine my surprise in Chicago when it started *raining* in the summer!
Thanks for your cheery words!
