Totally misusing the word, but that's all right.
So lately I've been feeling ... boring. Y'know, too busy being responsible to really enjoy myself.
But seriously, that is the age old complaint with me. I want to do all this cool stuff. But I never do. Partially because of the constraints of the body. Like today, I totally caught a cold and slept all day. The wonky period adjustment thing gives me great days and really lousy ones. So there's only so much energy to go around.
But mostly because I usually sit around waiting for things to happen. And the plans that I do have always get put off "until later".
But enough of that! I need to take action before it's too late. A late-night conversation last night made me realize how much I missed being impulsive, and having friends around to make late-night bubble tea/diner trips and movies.
It's always a balance, b/c I can also do homework, and there's lots of interesting readings to do, and I want to draw more (or at all), and make a website, and reshape Chinese School.... but I need social life, too. I guess out of all these things, I'm choosing social life for a while, until I feel like I have roots in this here Bay Area. It's generally a bad sign when I know restaurants in Chicago better than I know restaurants here. (zomg the little pancake thingies at Dixie Kitchen)
So, every Friday or Saturday night, I'll do adventurous things! Possibilities include:
1) movies
2) exploring downtown Palo Alto (I know nothing of the restaurants, bars, and pubs here. Any recommendations?)
3) picnics, hikes
4) serious cooked dinners
5) plays, concerts? I have no idea.
Go go Sushu!

For local bars and pubs, I found this site (http://www.metroactive.com/papers/metro/06.21.01/cover/bars-peninsula-0125.html). But it looks kind of old (Left at Albuquerque is now Pasta Pomodoro, for one, Q shut down years ago, and there's now an Old Pro next door to Nola's, but I think they're renovating).
There's also Vino Locale (www.vinolocale.com) on Kipling, which is a nice place to have a glass of wine.
And if you want someone to go with, let me know. :D

I really don't know a lot about the bar scene around here - a lot of people go to Nola's to get drinks, or to Blue Chalk Cafe but that's pretty expensive. Rose and Crown might be okay but I don't know how many young people go there. BBC in Menlo Park might be your best bet.

Let's see...Satura Cakes is also open late (11:00?) for desserts, it's totally like a Japanese patisserie, and the University Cafe is a nice little hangout.
Unfortunately for me, I only ever go to these places with my parents, so I can't guarantee the cool factor.

Don't feel bad about knowing Chicago better. I know Chicago better than my hometown, and I've spent lots of time being social in my hometown. Well, as social as I get. You spent four years without parents and with lots of people dragging you places. Of course you know it well.
